I figured that some people may not want to dedicate an entire thread to their beta saves, myself included, so feel free to post about them in here!

So as I suggested in the 'Plans' thread, I've started my first beta save with Atlanta United in the MLS. It's somewhere different, with the a club I quite like and I'm quite a fan of the MLS in general (I know, I'm sorry). Atlanta encompass all my favourite FM traits, they've got a cracking stadium, a nice badge and kit colours, and the also have Josef Martinez, one of my favourites on FIFA, so it was perfect for me. It's been a decent enough start to the season. I'm really enjoying the new tactics implementation, as it allows a fairly inept player like me get something up and running without too many hitches and it works exactly as I wanted it to and as it should. I'm using the "control possession" preset, and whilst there are a few things I don't like about it, the actual core concept works perfectly, we're averaging 55-65% possession each match, but we need to be better in front of goal!

I've been playing around with Milan since the beta arrived on Friday and we're doing fairly well so far, without standing out too much. I'm playing a 4-2-3-1 at the moment, looking to control possession and dictate the play and, while it's doing it's job, we've only scored 12 goals in those nine matches and are clearly benefiting from a defence that has only conceded four times. A back five of Donnarumma, Abate, Caldara, Romagnoli and Ricardo Rodrigues is probably up there with the best Serie A has to offer so this is no surprise, but I'd like a bit more going forward, especially we pick up a few injuries at the back. That said, we've beaten Roma away (1-0), Napoli at home (2-1) and Inter 'away' (3-2) so there's clearly something about us. I imagine I'll play up until Christmas of this season, just getting a feel for the game, and then move onto something new.

Good start, Nick. Was it last year your Milan save stuck for longer than anticipated?

Good start, Nick. Was it last year your Milan save stuck for longer than anticipated? Erm...I think it was the year before. I'm so bad at remembering which version I played which save though. I think I started a Milan save last year, but it didn't get past more than two or three seasons.

Just finished my first season with the beta. Started (as I usually do) with - Swansea City. I anticipated a long slog, with poor finances and a young inexperienced squad. Turns out we start with a hefty bank balance (not sure if I'm aloud to say how much), although it does dwindle quite quickly. The season ended like this; We had a slow start but results picked up once we settled upon a regular tactic (below). Managed to salvage a lot of draws when defeat seemed inevitable. A draw in the penultimate game and defeat in our last saw us lose out on the title in the end. However with 10 games left I was resigned to a playoff place. QPR and Leeds were 8 & 6 points clear respectively but QPR absolutely blew it. Tactically we were set-up pretty much how I settled in FM 18, however a few tweaks were required with the new features. We had to supplement our dwindling finances with a couple of sales (I really did not think promotion was on the cards before Christmas). Our total outgoings/in comings are below; A long off season awaits. We have £40m too spend, but all areas need strengthening, plus we'll be losing our best player in the centre of the park, Leroy Fer. Who was unhappy and wouldn't sign a new contract, instead he is off to Lokomotiv Moscow on a free. I'm at a bit of a loss quite how we will assemble a squad capable of staying up, although with that transfer budget and a hefty wage budget, I'm sure we'll find a way. I must add that I am enjoying FM19. It did seem a bit soulless at first, but the more I've played, the more I've got into it.

Ah well, I was having a really enjoyable season with Palermo in Serie B, won the title and got to the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia, but I keep having issues with a bug where the game either a) wont process to the start of a match, forcing a quit and restart or b) wont resume the match after making a substitution, again, forcing a quit and restart. Which is a bit of a nightmare really, so back to the drawing board tomorrow.

After a slow start, I feel like we're starting to click. I started the season playing a 4-2-3-1 formation using the 'gegen-pressing' pre-set tactical option and it didn't really work out. Maybe we don't have the players, or maybe I just didn't understand the style enough? More recently I've moved to a more controlling 4-5-1 with a flat three in midfield. The change in performances was almost instant, but we're looking pretty fluid at the moment, which is nice. Rashford is my top scorer with five, while Alexis has flattered to deceive, just as he has in real life. If anyone wants to come in with an offer for him in January, I'll snap their hand off, because he's worth £66m! The biggest surprise has been Andreas Pereira, who has three goals and two assists in his five starts, along with two MOM awards. I've managed to climb the table a bit, having been sat seventh for a while, but City look like they'll waltz to another title. I know, to everyone's shock. I imagine I'll play through to around Christmas again, maybe a bit further, while I finalise plans for my 'proper' save when the game is fully released.

Great stuff Nick!
I'm in a weird position in which I'm inherently enjoying the game, it's easily the best FM I've played I reckon, but I simply can't get anything to stick.
I think it's partly because I want a save in a few nations that I'd need the editor for, or at least I'm hoping that's it.

It really is very good. I'm enjoying it immensely, but at the same time I am trying not to get too into these beta saves as I have a real mental block against carrying them over to the full game. I just can't do it.
I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing first either. I might go back to basics and have a proper, old-school journeyman. No experience or qualifications and just jump in at the deep end.

They played with wingbacks and they were offered very little cover, so we tore them apart. Lingard cutting in from the right created acres of space for Ashley Young, who helped himself to four assists! Part of my reasoning for playing a flat three in midfield was to maximise Pogba's impact (my tactic is actually called 'Releasing Pogba') and having him as a 'Mezzala - Attack' seems to be freeing him up to do as he pleases. Now back fully fit and firing on all cylinders. We scored some really well-worked goals, which I'll upload in the morning. One of Lukaku's was a superb team goal.

I made a big call to post about my FM19 save on SI forums - I've stayed away before as I loved everything that TD/FMNow had. With this site just getting set up etc, I wanted to post somewhere where a lot of people would see what I'm writing about and a lot of people would be interested and commenting. Sadly, I've been very much mistaken and I'm now wondering whether to come back to here and just post it all for our few members to read - at least there would be some discussions had! The save is here: community.sigames.com/topic/449618-fm19-not-all-that-glitters-is-gold/?tab=comments#comment-11562425Maybe this is what a 'new poster' at SI goes through. Maybe I should have put faith into this communtity, as it's been there for the past 15+ years of my FM playing!

For me, and this is only my personal slant on things Ben, your posts are far too in depth, detailed and, well, good, for the majority of people that end up on the SI forums (This is a generalisation of course, but is my experience from being a regular lurker there) Unless you're posting the next big super tactic, people just don't seem very interested.
You're always welcome here, of course, but that was never in doubt!

Obvs not in beta anymore but after many false starts within uk and europe, I finally settled on trying a save with Everton solid allround squad, though to many players once everyone returns off loans, no money and losing money each month initailly enjoying this save - not sure what direction will be come summer, guess that depends on funds. but so far the table looks good to read considering board want top half

Will i break my curse of the third season sacking/collapse of enjoyment....I got Peterborough promoted from league one in second season Even went on a dreamy fairytale cup run in the magical FA Cup Charlton League one Blackpool League two York National League North MK Dons League One Shrewsbury League One Burnley EPL - we scored an own goal, grr. QPR championship Liverpool EPL - another level, I decided to not go with our open attacking control possession style football here, went with a 3511 with the 5 sitting just infront of the 3 playing super defensive counter attacking hoofbool. our goal was a mix up between the one last def and a oon rushing sweeper keeper, leaving our lonley striker to let us dream for abit. (also had to play my backup keeper, who is a whooping 6 ft 8!) - there winner came in the 89th minute Match stats from final

After ploughing so much time and effort into Servette, I wanted something completely different. Something casual, that I could pick up and put down whenever I want, something I could plug a tactic into and just play games with elite players. So I chose Barcelona. Plus, you know, Messi. We absolutely blew everyone away. La Liga was a complete procession. Attack was the best form of defence and, while Atletico actually pushed us for longer than you'd expect, they fell away massively at the end of the season and we broke record after record on our way to the title. Real Madrid were woeful, while Valencia were the surprise package. Solari was eventually sacked and replaced by Marcelo Bielsa, who seemed to redirect the ship. I didn't make any signings, but there are holes in the squad. Suarez is the only recognised striker, but having scored 33 goals this season, there are worse options to have. Although managing the creme de la creme, I didn't want to stray too far from my roots, so I gave plenty of game time to Jorge Cuenca and Juan Miranda, both of which are developing nicely, with the latter now listed as a wonderkid. Gerard Pique was the pick of the defenders, while Phil Coutinho was surprisingly influential. Messi, on the other hand, spent half the season injured, which was a massive disappointment, given that half the reason for choosing Barca was to manage him. He'll also miss pre-season due to injury. Back on the pitch, we added the Copa del Rey and the Champions League to the trophy cabinet to complete the treble. La Liga fixtures can be found here and here. Squad stats are here. Next season I'm expecting much of the same, although I need to start planning for the future because there are seven players over 30 in the squad. We're in desperate need of a number 10 and a striker, but when you shop at Harrods it's hard to bring in two players of that quality, even with 150 million euros to spend.

A fairly mundane summer by all accounts. Frenkie de Jong arrived from Ajax for a fee that will probably rise to eighty million euros, in what was a pre-arranged deal true to real life. If I'm honest, he's not someone I would have bought myself and I certainly don't think he's worth the money we paid for him. He's also enjoyed an injury-hit start to his time at the club. I also added the number ten I'd been coveting when Joao Felix joined from Benfica for fifty five million euros. A wonderkid with bags of potential, I think he could become one of the world's best. Our Champions League group consists of Porto, Lyon and Club Brugge, which shouldn't cause too many problems, given our stature. Early signs suggest that Real Madrid are back to their best under Bielsa, having signed Rodrygo from Santos and Inaki Williams from Bilbao. Hopefully they out up more of a fight this season.

In a season where records have tumbled already, playing with ten men for 81 minutes against Leganes has been the only thing to bring our clean sheet record to an end. Fourteen and counting in the league, but Real Madrid are matching us stride for stride. The first El Clasico, at the Bernabeu, is our final game before the mini mid-season break. The Champions League group stage was something of a formality. 16 points from 18 saw us comfortably top the group. December will be spent in Japan competing in the Club World Cup.

Two through the door on deadline day, and both a nod to the future. Doku joins from Anderlecht for his release fee of £18.25m and will spend the rest of this season playing in the U19's while a space for him in the first team opens up. Anyone with the wonderkid tag at 17 needs some attention and Doku looks like the real deal, although I've not seen him mentioned elsewhere. The lad is six foot three as well, which takes him into monster territory. A fantastic personality and solid attributes already, I was impressed how good he was technically. Vision could do with improvement, and I'll be working on that from the off in training. Also joining is Thiago Almada for £3.1m from Velez in Argentina. He is someone I've seen before, but never been able to afford. He's probably good enough to play in the first team squad from now, but instead he'll spend six months in the B team. A decent level for someone learning their trade. I don't suppose it'll be long before he too has the wonderkid tag.
