I might take my own suggestion to Nick and go to Poland, or somewhere similar. Haven't played FM in a week until now, as I've been playing other games, and I just can't bring myself to keep going in this Asia save.
Will give it another little while and then see how we go.

Not enough teams in CANPL. feels it will get old to quick. Agreed. No promotion or relegation either by the looks of it, so five seasons of that and I'd be after a new save again. I also thought about MLS but even after holidaying a couple of seasons, I can't see where youth players come from. Every team has an academy, but no intake.

Youth in the MLS is a weird one. Every team should have a youth team or an academy side, and those teams should get intakes, but the rest of it will be done through the draft.
I know that on previous versions of the game, me and NSD used to love the expanded MLS files because the drafts had such a wide variety of talented players, but the vanilla drafts are usually awful.

Is there a file out there that takes out the draft and all the MLS/franchise style rules to bring it more inline with other leagues? I like the thought of an American C&C save, but I think all the weird rules are a) going to make that a bad idea and b) going to take too long for me to get my head around.

There isn't one that I know of, but in theory it would be fairly easy in the editor, I think?
The rules became fairly easy to understand after a while, though. The only major drawback for me is that the continental competition in North America is, frankly, wank. I hate it so much. I guess a C&C would help get around that, though.
I'm currently flitting between the idea of Poland or Ukraine. Nowhere else is really jumping out at me at the moment, so if anybody has any ideas, please feel free to chime in. Gonna play some Destiny 2 in the mean time and mull it over.

Is there anything in particular that you're looking for in both?

Off the top of my head, what about Dnipro?

Is there anything in particular that you're looking for in both? I'm really not sure, to be honest. I wasn't sure if there was even another country that would jump out at me, but I think Ukraine might end up being the one I go for. The original Dnipro are an amateur side down in the 4th tier, so I'm not sure I'd fancy going that far down. There's a couple of teams in the third and second tiers which look okay, including Obolon-Brovar, that I seem to manage every two or three editions of the game. I've just been out with my Gran for a bit, so I'll load up Ukraine and see if there's any club that jumps out at me. There's a few solid choices in the top tier, but I don't know if I maybe fancy starting a tier below

You don't fancy the 'new' version of Dnipro and the chance to create your own history?
The problem with nations like Ukraine, Russia, Serbia etc. is that the difference in pretty much everything between the top tier and second tier teams is absolutely massive and that always puts me off.
What about Illichivets? Predicted lower mid-table, spent most of their history in the top division, but never won it. Europa League football after finishing fourth last season, but have a squad full of loan players and fairly run of the mill facilities?

Yeah, the more I think about the new Dnipro, the more I'm tempted to be honest. They have a really nice badge too, so that's always something! I did look at Illchivets or Lviv too, but I think it will be Dnipro

Ukraine is one of those nations where there's a balance between being good enough initially, but also plenty of room for improvement. Dynamo Kyiv would be a good option too.

Gutted to hear some good saves are looking like they are on their last legs but also excited to see what you come up with. I really like Poland and i had a great save there last year with Cracovia so i would fully support a save there. Cyprus would also be good to see being probably the best European league not in the game.
Another option for a save which could be a nice swansong for FM20 is to do a glory hunter save. Not sure if you follow Dr Benjy FM but he essentially set himself the task of winning the top 5 league and cups as well as the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup and Euros in 20 seasons. He started at Inter Milan but you could easily start unemployed but with a half decent reputation and build from there!
My other tip for finding a save is always to take inspiration from my real life such as places that i am going to go or in this case picking a team from a place that i was going to go to this year. So far it has worked out well as i am loving this Greek adventure

Poland is appealing, as it always is, as I had one of my best ever FM saves there in around FM12/13 with Slask Wroclaw, so it's a league I enjoy playing in. I like the idea of a real life inspiration, I've used that before with Hertha Berlin. I'm (hopefully) taking a solo trip to Lisbon in November, so I quite like the idea of going making going with the "third" Lisbon team, Belenenses. But I just really don't know. It's frustrating when you have a weekend off and just want to chill with some FM and you just can't get in to anything.

Belenenses is a great shout for a team. I did a save with them a few years ago for the exact same reason. Even went to their stadium.
Another team that i have fancied is Altirnodu in Turkey. They are only allowed to sign Turkish players as their chairman refuses to sign foreign players. Would make a great Turkish only challenge

But Belennenses have simular vibes to Dnipro now. The old club is deep in lowert leagues, the newer founded team is higher up. the fans are all with the lower lower one Bulgaria is a lesser managed nation these days too that used to get love, but guess the recent mess of teams buying liscences of other sides sort of makes a feel of who Litex and co really are , then you you got the mess of CSKA sofia/ CSKA 1948.

I've had a few saves in Bulgaria, primarily with Blotev and Litex. It's not the worst league to manage in, tbf. I have just started a save, in a nation I hadn't mentioned up to this point, so I'll see how I get on with this before bed tonight. Hopefully it sticks.

Belenenses is only good if you start with the real belenenses in the lower leagues. Another good shout for Portugal is starting with the "other" benfica en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C.F._Benfica

I did look at the other Benfica, but wasn't sure how far down it was they played. And Sintra too, because the palace is cool as fuck.
I had a good look at Grasshopper in the Swiss second tier, but once again I couldn't shake the idea of Poland, so it's Widzew Lodz for me.

Are there any teams in Europe that have a huge debt? Last year I had a great game with Panathinaikos but this year they are richer I think. Or in general I want a club that has to sell players for profit to stay afloat.

Indeed, I like getting sacked lately, So I will give it a go. At start they have twoloaned in players, but if i go to make a loan offer it says I cannot even do that, so its a hardcoded Russian youth challenge.
