Bossing the leagues. That's a huge points return and goal difference. Great season for Griezemann. How did you use him? He played as an AF on his own up top.

Season 5 Mid Season Review
Sorry for the delay in posting.
It is the dreaded 2022/23 season, you know the one where the World Cup is played in November. It ruins the typical European season. Pre Season was short with my tour to America getting cancelled twice. In the end we played just 4 games.
Seeing that I mentioned the World Cup I will start there. France retained their title by beating Brazil, Griezmann getting the only goal of the game. Brazil knocked out Spain in the quarter final resulting in me applying and getting the vacant post. I don't usually do international management, I often find it a added burden but I thought I would give it a go.
The Spanish squad isn't too bad.
It is what you would expect, a number of aging players and no newgens in sight. The plan is to slowly blend some of the youth into the team, defence looks like it will be the first area, shortly followed by the attackers. In our Euro's qualification group we have Romania, Bulgaria, Israel and Belarus. Pretty straight forward on paper. We also have the Nations Cup Semi Final against Italy in June 2023. We currently sit 6th in the world rankings.
Back at Atletico things have been relentless, games every few days and the usual niggling injuries. Only the strongest of squads will survive this season. Surprisingly it is Valencia who seem to be pushing us the hardest so far but Barca and Real Madrid aren't too far behind.
In the Champions League we have been faultless despite having the much fancied Man City in our group. Not even their £164m superstar Mbappe derail our bid for the title.
The squad was added too again as I look to put my stamp on it. I think I made a £40m profit in the transfer market with Origi and Coquelin both being sold for in excess of £40m. I brought in a few free transfers and loanees but the main signings were:
Alex - Barcelona £19m (a product of or youth system and we received £6m back from previous clauses) Leon Goretzka - Bayern Free Aristos Tsoukkas - £44.5m Lens (a massive fee but there are limited amount of EU qualified right backs, he was a free signing I made at Lens)
In other news Thomas Lemar won all of the versions of the World Player of the Year award. He as been on fire this season.

Season 5 End Of Season Review
We finished the season with the same top 5 that were there at the mid season point, with only a few variances in positions. Valencia kept up their good form and pushed us all the way. I can't believe they only lost twice in the league. Barcelona had a poor second half of the season, only picking up 25 points in their remaining 16 games.
Our Champions League performances were excellent. Some big wins but away games still worry me slightly - Man City result could have easier gone against us. We dominated Liverpool in the final, having 59% of the possession and having 12 shots on target. Griezmann got a brace to add to the goal he scored in the World Cup final. Whilst I mention Griezmann I am pleased he finally agreed a new contract, his £800k a week contract was coming to an end and I just couldn't afford his demands, in the end he agreed a 2 year extension at £550k. Way over anything I have spent before but is he unstoppable at the moment and the £250k a week saving is massive.
The youth intake was below average with Adrian being the best of the bunch.
The squad performances are what you expect from a season where we won the league and the ECL.
8 players scored double figures with 3 of them scoring more than 25. We are however still conceding too many so that is something to work on in the off season.
Gelson Martins getting my award for player of the season.
There is plenty of work to do over the summer. I would like to bring in some youth prospects as we are clearly not producing as I would like. I also need to make some decisions on what we have at the club, I have relied on a loanee striker for the past two season and I would like to fill that with one of our own, a Spanish player if possible.

Wow ttgb what a season mate!!!!! Getting 3 players to score over 25 goals is amazing, I recently gloated in my save about having 4 with 15+ goals, but I think your achievement is far superior (as none of my 4 players got over 20 goals). What's on from here? New horizons or keep accumulating silverware in Madrid?

Thanks both.
I have played another season which I need to write up. I still feel I have a job to do here but I do keep an eye out for new opportunities. Recently both the Juventus and Barcelona jobs have come up. Both are really struggling with aging squads and are just scrapping Europa league football each season.

Season 6 End of Season Review Due to being away on holiday and the kids being off from school I didn't have much time to write regular updates so this is a full season in one. It is my third season in Spain and probably my worst to date. First off the good news. The league was wrapped up in style, with my highest points total to date. Nobody good handle us this season, although we did score less than last season but made up for it with a tighter defence. A late surge from Barcelona meant they avoided the prospect of no European football. Now for the poor part. The Champions League was a major disappointment. I drew a group consisting of Juventus, Benfica and Red Bull Salzburg and smashed them off the park. I hit 7 past Juventus at home and followed that up with 5 in Turin. 26 goals scored and only 2 conceded, we were truly on course for retaining our title. Then came the knockout tie against Man City. The trip to Manchester was a nightmare and we ended up losing 0-3. We faired much better at home but despite a 4-2 win we still exited the competition. We did manage to add to the trophy cabinet with some minor trophies but losing the Copa El Ray on the last game of the season to pens sums up our season. The youth intake didn't really produce much again but Antonio Rodriquez looks like he could have something about him. In the summer I spent £59m pounds, mostly signing youth players. However 3 players did come in to bolster the first team. Iker Martinez - A player that came into my Spanish squad when I first took over. Signed for an eventual £20.5m from Aston Villa. He was slow out of the blocks but made the most of Griezmann's injuries and won my player of the season. Predrag Rajkovic - Another Lens player joins. He came in as back up keeper but again due to injuries he played the majority of the season. A bargain at £7.5m Nem - A real steal. Arrived in January for £18.25m from Intenacional. I see him as an eventual replacement for Koke. He scored 2 on his debut. A few niggling injuries restricted his game time but a proper pre-season should see him right. As mentioned above, injuries to key players played a big part in our failings in Europe, Oblak, Griezmann and Martins were just a few to have big injuries this season. As mentioned Martinez was my player of the season for how he played after playing in the championship with Villa. Special mentions must be given to Lemar and Mendez who both enjoyed great success as a left winger. incredible stats for two players sharing the same position.
I think if I had won the ECL I would have resigned and looked elsewhere. Juventus job is available, they finished 9th, 28 points behind winners Napoli. Also Chelsea will be looking for a manager after finishing 9th a whopping 39 points behind Man City. But I believe I have a job to do here. There are a few players coming to the end of their playing career, Griezmann, Koke and Oblak and I want to leave Madrid in a position where they remain strong. Martinez and Nem have come in to replace two but a world class keeper is needed in the long run. But here is the issue, my spending and early ECL exit as cost the club dearly and we end the season with a debt of over £50m. This summer will be all about trimming the squad and wage bill and looking at the youth to step up. I am also still with Spain (sorry for lack of update), we end into the Euro's after topping our group.

Euro 2024 - Spain Update
My two years with Spain is over. It didn't really go to plan if I am honest. Over the years I have played less and less international management and this stint sort of summed up the reasons why, don't get me wrong I don't mind a club and country save where you can build an international side over a number of years but jumping in a few years down the line just isn't the same for me.
I posted the squad when I took over and two years down the line it is pretty much still the same. Spain are one of the best nations in the world, always producing good young players but in this save I just couldn't find the talent to replace the aging stars, don't get me wrong there are a few at Barcelona but they aren't getting game time and just rotting away. The youngsters I have given a chance have all come from my Atletico squad.
I haven't really mentioned Spain in my updates over the two years so in brief I took over after a disastrous World Cup and my first competitive game was a Nations League Semi final against Italy, we won 2-0 but went on to lose 1-2 against Germany in the final. Euro 2024 qualifying was straight forward, Israel, Romania, Bulgaria and Belarus were in our group and we easily destroyed them.
We prepared for the Finals with two friendlies and two wins over England and Sweden. Things were looking good.
The squad was picked and you will see there is plenty of talent there, although lacking some experience up top.
We were drawn against Switzerland, Scotland and Croatia - all below us in the rankings. 4-0 and 2-0 against Switzerland and Scotland saw us qualify with a game to go. I should have seen the writing on the wall when my best XI lost 1-2 against Croatia.
In the Second Round we faced Denmark, on paper they are nothing more than OK, they have a good centre back partnership made up of two world class centre-backs but offer little up front. To say I was confident is an understatement. That back 4 kept us at bay throughout the game with our only break through coming from a 21st minute Suso freekick. They pulled one back and the game went to extra time and then penalties. After losing a final with Atletico on pens I wasn't looking forward to it. And with good reason, we totally fucked up and lost 2-4. We were out of the championship and the whole of Spain wanted my head. I quickly resigned and vowed never to return to international management.

Season 7 - End of Season Review
Another season done. It started with the summer of cut backs. After the disappointing ECL campaign last season we started the summer over £50m in the red. With a wage bill of £4.7m a week it was very much ruining us. £96m was raised via sales as I looked to trim expensive back up players and replace with youth. Five players did arrive for a total of £4m. 3 youth prospects and two that come into the first team squad. First up a player I have waited a while to manage in the game, Justin Kluivert, a free transfer from Roma. The second was another free transfer in Facundo Sosa from Nacional (Uruguay). The one youth I am overly excited about is Vincent Marechal, signed for £2.2m and a possible eventual replacement for Oblak.
The league was pretty straight forward as I made it 4 from 4. Nice to Barca in the mix for a change.
In the ECL we had a easy group and was through to the knockout stages against Lazio. After last years dismal performance I knew I needed to step up my game and after a few tactical tweaks we managed to get through on pens. Next up was divisional rivals Athletic, both ties ended 1-1 so another penalty shoot out, and we won again. Was my luck finally changing? We were rewarded with a semi final tie against Man Utd. In January Utd sacked Solskjaer, sitting 6th in the league they had has enough, and I applied for the job, I asked if I could take over in the summer. They rejected and have been on good form ever since. It would have a been a great job for me and a tough challenge, in a competitive league. Their good form continued when we played them, with us only winning via the away goal rule. This set up a final against Manchester neighbours City.
You have heard about my route to the final and the struggles I faced. Below is Cities, I know it gives away the outcome but all that fighting was worth it.
It actually turned out to be a perfect season with wins in the cup and Super Cup.
In amongst all that we had a youth intake and the next screenshot is just for Ben, we both been questioning feeder clubs and at last I have had a few players come from various sides.
In fact the best of those was:
Who looks like he could be amazing. Here is the rest of the intake.
As you would expect it was another big year for the goal scorers:
If I was to pick a player of the season it would be Leon Goretzka. In October he suffered an ankle injury which I thought would put him out for a few months. He was back within weeks and as he returned to fitness scored 7 in 7 games. He went on to control the midfield throughout the season and that good form continued when he bagged a brace against City in the final, both goals from outside the box, with one getting goal of the tournament.
After four successful years in Madrid it is time to move on. There are a few jobs available that match my criteria so time will tell if anything comes of it.

This has been a terrific read mate, you won everything you could at Atletico and jumping ship seemed like the reasonable thing to do. Here's hoping you replicate success. As a side note, what did you play tactically at Atlético? Those goal amounts never cease to surprise me, plus the fact that almost all of them are assisted.
Keep it up!

I have pretty much stuck with the 4231 I previously posted about. Roles and instructions do tend to change with personnel. I do tend to have a 'A' Team and a 'B' team within my first team squad so in effect I run two tactics. I think the balance of a winger on one side and a inverted forward on the opposite as given me great success this year and was the reason for a lot of what went on at Atletico.

Arsenal Takeover and Season 8 Pre Season
After a successful time in Spain it was time to try something new. I applied for a couple of jobs and my first interview was with Liverpool, as a Man Utd fan I could never manage them and their squad didn't really need re-building so I passed on the chance. As usual there is a merri-go round of managers at the top clubs so the Arsenal post came up, Luciano Spalletti last just under 3.5 years but was sacked for another mediocre season. Arsenal agreed the £20m compensation and I left for London.
Arsenal have never been higher than 4th since the save started and this is how they got on last season.
6th isn't good enough for this Arsenal squad, I know they were only 5 points off the top four but they are way off winning the league. A decent run in the domestic cups but a team like Arsenal really should be doing better than the 2nd round of the Europa League.
First team wise, this is what I have to work on:
My first impressions is that it is a good bunch to begin with. Plenty of experience and loads of players I haven't worked with before. Goals doesn't seem to be a problem and assists are coming across the pitch. I also noted a lot of versatility, which usually isn't a bad thing when developing your own players but players like Rice and Sessgnon have been developed by the AI and don't really fit comfortably in defence or midfield, some tough choices to make. I have looked at all the players and I agree with my coaches, Jamie Carter is the best youth product at the club and will get plenty of game time in the season ahead.
The plan was always to build my own squad and this will take time. To prepare me for that the board gave me £76m to spend (plus 90% of sales) and a wage budget of £4.4m - we were spending £4m.
It was a busy summer in the transfer market. By leaving Atletico I opened the floodgates and every club came swooping in to buy my former players, a lot got unhappy and wanted to leave. In the end their raised £270m in sales and a number of others left on loan. I hate it in FM when that happens. They are the best club in the world and they were selling players off cheaply and a lot of players were trying to force a move. In terms of player sales we weren't far behind, bringing in £159m. The biggest sale was top scorer Michael Kouame who left for £89m. A striker with a finishing rating of 12 isn't good enough for me despite scoring 20 last season, also I saw him more of a target man which isn't how I play. I tried to sell him but had no luck and then a flurry of clubs came in for him. He ended up at Man City who eventually loaned him to Real Madrid, not sure why. Other sales were needed to raise money or because the players weren't suitable for how I wanted to play.
At the opposite end five new players came in for a total of £181m which is a massive outlay in my first window. My first piece of business was Edgardo Abecasis who had a £10m optional fee attached to his loan and I activated it. Someone who I had seen whilst at Atletico but decided to join Real instead. He seems a decent player and I wanted someone who had experience of the EPL. With the sale of Kouame we were left very light up front, young Bruno Henrique is a bit raw but a wonderkid, although I still think he isn't quite there yet. So for re-enforcements I went big. I don't like raiding former clubs but Teo Mendes is the player that came with me from Lens and he follows me again. I knew the minute he came through the youth system that he had something about him and I have enjoyed developing him. He joins for £81m. To back him up I wanted an English striker and came across Steve Hart at Norwich, in fact Norwich had a couple of English youth prospects that I fancied but it appeared that I had scouted Hart previously. Negations were difficult and I am sure I could have got him at a fraction of the price if I was still in Spain but his eventual price will cost me £72m. Although I said I don't like going back to old clubs to sign players, it was something I did a couple of times at Atletico and I have done it again. Pelayo Morilla comes in on loan and Marc'Andria Bacquet came in for £21.5m Morilla was a great surprise in Spain and being able to play across any position across the top is a great benefit to me. Bacquet was one of the most improved players at Atletico. He joined us in the 23/24 season and only made an handful of first team appearance but excelled in the B side (2nd div) and Under 19's, getting around 50 goals in less than 100 games, he spent a lot of time training with the first team and got useful mentoring, he will no doubt get first team action this season.
So now that the squad as been built it is time to start the season.

Season 8 - End of Season Report
Like most of my posts this is going to be brief. We played a lot better than expected. The first couple of months was all about having a tight defence, we twice went 5 games without scoring. Goals were slow coming the other end with a number of 1-0 or 2-0 wins. But once Mendes and Hart found their feet we were flying. Tactically it was a slightly different approach to what I was previously playing but with no out and out IF in the squad I opted for two conventional wingers.
In the league we beat the total points tally and goals scored.
In a way I think we were partly gifted the league. In previous seasons Liverpool and City usually lose 1 or 2 games, with Liverpool previously winning the league with 101 points. United did push us until about February but they badly crashed, just as their title winning ECL run got going. United also had a good run in the FA Cup but we managed to beat them in the final to complete the domestic double.
In fact we will play United in the Euro Super Cup next season after we added the Europa League to the trophy cabinet. Our run to the final wasn't without difficulty, you will see from the image below that there was some big teams in the knockout stages but we really stepped up a level in Europa, something I struggled slightly at times whilst in Madrid. The 6-3 win in the final was massive, Bayer are full of amazing youngsters, perhaps their lack of experience was a factor in the end.
There was a lot of games this season, the Europa League intensifies the busy English schedule with only a week between knockout stages and on more occasions than not, a league game 2 days later. The result was a happy squad with everyone getting plenty of playing time.
As you can see Teo Mendes had an amazing first season here in England and was named my player of the season. He was shortly followed by Matteo Guendouzi, who really surprised me this season, how he didn't make the French squad for the World Cup, I don't know.
I somehow missed the news item about the youth intake but on checking, I hadn't missed much. Paul Stokes was the best to come through, not bad looking but 1 for first touch is very poor for a sweeper keeper.
The squad still needs a few tweaks over the summer ready for the ECL campaign. I have already confirmed one massive signing, all negotiated by my DoF. At present I am at a bit of a standoff with the board though. I signed a two year contract (I wanted 3). Ever since Xmas they have been trying to tie me down to a new contract with a 3 year extension, I only want to sign one that will take up to 3 years here at the club. After a few knock backs they offered the correct length but at a pay cut of £100k a week. I don't usually look at manager wages in FM but I have to be realistic and reject their offer.

Congrats on the double my friend!!!! What does the future bode for your amazing management skills? Winning the UEFA Super Cup, the Champions League and then move on? [b0r] I can dream. We lost the Super Cup. Plus the community shield (again). So far we are struggling, some things aren't clicking and we suffered badly from a lot of players having little break due to the world cup. I would like 3 years at the club but that is looking unlikely st this stage.

Season 9 - End of Season Report
I had planned to split this update but time as got away from me again so it will be all in one.
It was a busy summer before season 9 even started. I spent more than I planned and it put is in a poor financial position all season. Luckily I did manage to bring in £110m with a number of fringe squad players leaving including Luan (£26.5m Everton), Bruno Henrique (£25.5m Leeds) and Francisco Ortega (£58m Man Utd).
The first player through the door was someone I asked my DoF to sort out and I think he did hell of job on price and wages, welcome back to England, Jadon Sancho (£86m Bayern) who will be first choice left winger this season. Anthony Wood (£800k Fulham) and Patricio Paschetta (£2.2m Lanus) are future prospects. Pelayo Morilla joined on a free transfer after a successful season on loan from Atletico last year. The final season is the one I was most excited about, who doesn't like a big expensive full back signing... Marius Fliess joins for £60m from Bayer and already looks the best left back in the game. Full backs are key to how I play, they need so much energy and capable of attacking as well as defending. I think Marius as it all.
The league was the tightest I have experienced in years and we were never truly on top. Man Utd recruited well and City spent little which meant the had a stable side for the first time in years. Heavily scheduling effected us all but we managed to win the title on the last day of the season. Utd who lost their last game dropped to 3rd after leading the pack for so long.
We had mixed success in the cups, losing the early season games in the Community Shield and Euro Super Cup. Southampton knocked us out of the 4th round of the Caroboa but we managed to lift the FA Cup.
In Europe we faced Lazio, Real Madrid and Rangers in the group stages and didn't really click, poor loses away in Italy and Spain nearly put our entire season at jeopardy. Lazio were definitely a surprise package and managed to take points off Madrid in both of their games which meant we topped the group followed by the Italians.
Things improved dramatically after the New Year and despite not the easiest of draws we coasted to the final where we faced PSG. An early Mendes goal set us on our way and a Sancho penalty settled it for us in the second half. Mission complete.
Despite a very tough season we played some amazing attacking football. Just look at the image below to see how well we did in front of goal.
Teo Mendes was just amazing, I can't remember the last time I had a player score so many goals. Both wingers - Nelson and Sancho were amazing, the IF with a winger opposite really works well, I think 90% of Sancho's goals were assisted by Nelson.
The youth intake was poor with yet again the best player being a keeper - Besart Rama
You will remember that I have been at loggerheads with the board over a new contract. I had wanted an additional year, despite dozens of attempts to settle on a deal we couldn't. I went to two years but they were insistent on 5. I asked for 3 but in typical Arsenal fashion they tried to cut my wages in half. The arguments with the board meant I was falling out of love with the club, I decided I won't entertain them any longer and when the usual end of season manager merri-go-round started to take place I made my move out of London..........

The Next Chapter....
I didn't have to go far as I was offered a job in Manchester, the red side.
It was my dream job and too hard to turn down. Unlike real life United have had a good time in the league/ECL. The won both in 2019 and added another ECL title in 2026. They have only been outside the top 4 once since I started the save.
The challenge here lies with the squad.
That is just the first team, the amount of players at the club is stupid, and outside the first team there isn't really much talent. The first team squad is full of aging players who are on massive money. The club is spending £5.3m a week, yes a week on player wages alone. There are a few that are leaving the club, including Lukaka so hopefully the wages will fall. The main job for the first season is to cut the numbers and work out what we need.
Looking through the squad one name that stands out is Federico Jorio who is one of the best players in the game at present. I saw him whilst he was at Lazio but just couldn't afford him.
Elsewhere we have Oliver Thomsen at the back who looks a decent player and in midfield I expect Leon Bailey to provide a lot, I have never actually managed him in a game so I am looking forward to seeing what he can produce. Our brightest prospect appears to be James Black, a bit raw but with the right training I expect him to progress nicely.

Season 10 - End of Season Report
I have flown through a couple of seasons here at United so time to update you all.
Season 10 started with a busy summer as I looked to trim the squad a little. A lot of squad fodder left and there were a few aging stars such as Lukaka at the end of their contracts so they all left. In total I brought in £156m through sales and a big whack was shaved off the wage bill. I didn't go mad in the transfer market, only bringing in 3 players to replace some that left.
I needed a new first choice keeper, De Gea won't last much longer and he was the only one left in the first team squad. I brought in 19 year old Eliandro from Sao Paulo for a sum of £23m which I think is a brilliant investment. My final paid transfer was a familiar face, Nem signed from Atletico for £96m. A big sum but he is world class and my midfield needs youth. My final signing was Alex Grimaldo, a free signing after his contract at Liverpool expired. He will do for a year or two whilst I work on a more long term target.
The title was a one horse race with my former club having a very poor season, I was expecting more from them. The amount of goals we scored was insane. I hope the likes of Liverpool and City can be more of a challenge in the future. You will also notice no Chelsea in the top 8.
We also added the FA Cup to complete a domestic double.
If you think the goals were flowing in the league, you should have seen us in the ECL.
We smashed everyone in front of us, winning it was never in any doubt.
9 players hit double figures but I am yet to get a player with an average rating over 8. The performances from the front through to the back were outstanding. Rashford had no trouble finding the net as he finally removed the shackles known as Lukaka. Jorio was amazing, I think for the first time in this version I have a AMC playing how I want them to play, he can only get better.
The youth intake didn't really produce anything or anyone special. This seems to be standard practice from my experience managing in England. Luis Butler and Luke Obrey are players who have been singled out. I don't see them making the first team.
