Germans Inbound
More young players coming to the fore at Hamburg and these are all nationality - German.
Josh Vagnoman is found at the club when you arrive as manager. Along with Arp he is clearly a starlet. I think Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham are interested IRL. He's a top young prospect who is doing well in my save, capped by Germany in my tenure. Can play left and right and I want to keep him for a good duration.
Backofen is a signing that I punted on. I liked him more than my scouts and at the moment I think it's me who is right. A season or two away from regularly featuring.
Riedle is also a signing rather than someone our academy produced. Two or three clubs were interested, I made my offer and left it. As opposed to, I don't know, making him a transfer prospect, commenting through media or negotiating the terms I offered. The player chose us against the competition. Good lad. Slightly ahead of Backofen but it's both that are making me hold off from signing a big time Arp type replacement. One or both of these two, I hope, is destined for a leading role up front.
Dear @ttgb thanks so much for reading, I hope we're all good for now and @Ben similar, something coming up later.

Affiliations & Youth
This is a slightly deeper delve on youth stuff with a slight aim toward @Ben who expressed an interest.
Since this save began we've been receiving youths in our academy intakes from affiliated clubs, namely Pogon (Poland) and Reysol (Japan). The first thing to say is that these were both affiliations that I inherited and did not setup. Secondly the board has recently cut both links despite productivity.
Before they went I took a look to see if I could understand why they were producing youths for us. And maybe there is a key link. Here's a partner club that I've since added, in fact I added all those you see, but example is Maccabi Haifa. It's an international link in which players are loaned. They can send us players for training/experience and we may benefit by producing players from that country. Critically with all these clubs I added, that part is a detail which I've negotiated into the affiliation, it was not present just from getting the link.
Next. Here is some players from my 1st intake.
I've deliberately shown you the top 4 or 5 players for a reason and that's their age. In Germany you normally get a lot of youths aged 14 or 15 which you can see with the German lads but the Japanese players were 17 and 18. Below are images of them as first introduced into the game as youth prospects. Despite their high potential you can see they are a bit weak especially if you compare them to players of a similar age that we now have (see Backofen and Riedle in post above who are way better). This might be due to the improvements we've made in a couple of seasons to our setup here at HSV, not sure.
Unfortunately I do not feel that these players have progressed a great deal since, furthermore Tsuruta hasn't adapted well to 'winger' training nor been able to drop the PPM to lose 'shoots from distance' and he has had two attempts at getting rid of it.
These may simply be products of a first intake in the save or just unlucky examples to highlight. Here is Tsuruta now, two years later. He has developed a tad but not massively.
He is on loan this season at 1860 and perhaps that's starting to help, a late developer or perhaps just seems that way cause he was generated when aged 18. Perhaps the age players are generated is important here. If Tsuruta was generated aged 14 and was now 16 I may be thinking differently about him?
Final thoughts on academy prospects in general. I read somewhere recently that you should sign everyone your club produces. This is because some players seem to get a change in PA stars later on, whether that's a downgrade or an upgrade. Interested on other people's thoughts or observations towards that or any of this stuff.

Return to Europe
When I saw the draw for Europa League Group L I didn't hold out a lot of hope for the opposition if I'm honest.

Interesting on the regens, Robson. Can't say I've ever experienced much older players being generated but it may be down to the fact that Japan isn't really 'complete' within the editor so there is no way to set their min and max youth age.
Shame that they aren't really up to it - the Bundesliga has a thing for producing a few decent Japanese players to be fair.
Any good Israeli's through yet? Do you have the same option on the Hammarby link?

Hi. Not quite the point of my conjecture, my fault. What I was wondering was whether youths needed 3-5 years to develop properly or more fully.
So if generated at 14/15 then by 18 they're looking good and maybe developed in full by age of 20. Examples more like Backofen and Riedle. But that would mean Tsuruta generated aged 18 won't look developed until he's 21 and not in full until he's 23. Therefore maybe my criticism of the Japanese boys, on not looking great yet, is harsh as although aged 20 they've not had the time yet? In other words players generated at an older age appear to be late developers but its simply not enough time in the game?
to the other question. Hammarby has the same option but is newer. Let me revert on both shortly when I go through another year group.

Mid Season 4 Briefly
I've taken myself off track slightly missing my mid season catchup. We're 5th in a pretty tight top six, just 6 or 7 points covering us all not that we are really in the running. I would like top four and that's the aim but it could go either way.
We are scoring well and avoiding draws though losing and conceding a few. We are good for the TV; goals and win/lose.
This game sums things up currently. Hoffenheim were top at the time, not that they are going to be the top team. They went two-nil up; one of them was an OG; we won 3-2 with a 90th minute winner and by the way, both sides missed a penalty.
I sold Kempf and Krauss in the Jan window, not for a lot. Enough to keep the bank manager quiet. Neither were getting enough game time as the squad develops and competition for places heats up.
I expected a big bid for this lad but didn't get one.
Only has 18 months left on his deal as I'm daring, almost encouraging a seismic bid for him. Didn't get one and his bio is now saying he isn't looking to sign a new one due to the interest in him. A game of cat & mouse has just begun.

Hammarby In On The Act
Hammarby are an affiliate I set up and negotiated that training clause with. They have now joined the list of clubs that occasionally produce youths for us.
It perhaps isn't surprising given the work we've done, including the appointment of Bernhard Peters, arguably the best HOYD in the game, that are youth team is becoming a bit mighty in the league that they play on. I have got quite a lot of players bubbling up now.

Season 4 - Still Moving UpwardsMainly this season was a lot of fun. We played without pressure, we competed in the league, the cup and in Europe. Everyone is getting on, the atmosphere at the club is good and yeah we're in a nice position at the moment. That's not to say everything lasts forever. We scored a lot of goals this season and this fella was in amongst the action. I said at some point that Dejan Joveljic was our support striker, well not any more. He also blinked first and broke our contract stalemate getting his agent to approach the club for a new deal which I gave him. I did contemplate whether or not I might be able to engineer a swap deal at some point for him with Arp and get our protégé back. That was only a brief thought however and we've backed the man in form. I've left an £85m buyout clause in his contract for Champions League clubs, look you never know, I'd happily take that right now. As the season came to a finale we were competing for a top 4 place and with it a route into the ECL, plus we had Liverpool in the Europa League final, plus our 3rd consecutive appearance in the German Cup final. Busy times. With the almost the last kick of the Bundesliga season we produced this dramatic result. You can see the final table below to see just how significant that goal from Perez was! Such a tight little group at the top and where have Hertha come from? I swear they were in a relegation playoff the other year. Anyhow we're headed for the Champions League. We then lost to Liverpool (2-5) in a match that went wrong from the 1st minute. Not going to dwell on that for too long. Lets shift to the German Cup instead. At last. In 4 seasons we've lost in the semi-final and the previous 2 finals. For some reason we clearly enjoy the damn thing and now it is ours. Silverware, yee-ha. On to the summer now. My objectives are three fold. - Improve left midfield
- Pick up a couple of young German lads with potential
- Do not get distracted

State of the ClubA few easy pictures to quickly highlight where we are at. First one below right after we get a load of cash dumped into our account by the league for the season. It also shows our transfer and wage budgets plus I've added my personal status at the club. Currently 'untouchable' which is about right given that season but we know things can change. The next picture was probably screenshot by me at a slightly earlier date. It shows that our wages are pretty darn low in reality when compared to the stature of the club itself. Sleeping giant etc. Finally a yardstick I put in a previous post. I think we've gained a bit on the big two at the top. We did of course extend the stadium's capacity in that time.

Season 5 - Midway
Could it be the big season?
Doesn't feel like it. Really has been a bit ugly in large parts. Goal difference looks a bit limp and a 3rd place in our ECL Group has dumped us back into the Europa. Also this league has been really topsy turvy all save, bizarrely we must be the most consistent team in an inconsistent era.
Some work to be done then. First things first and I need to tie up a top 4 finish and ideally in 3rd ahead of Augsburg would be nice. Probably a quick tactic check too as I may have slowly veered from course. Not much else to say this time, I want to steam by this minor lull.

Another Batch
Thank you Sturm for becoming the 4th club in on the act.
As for Jauk he certainly isn't the heaviest player of his generation at 8 stone 4 pounds, er that's 52.6 kilos. I might not be able to give him a game if it's windy.

A League All Over The Place
1st season of this save and no surprise it's won by Bayern. That made it 7 in a row at that time.
Since 2018/19 things have gone a bit peculiar. Keep in mind it's an 18-team division.
Currently I'm at the back end of 2022/23 & Hertha are 14th. This not strange for them as in 2020 and 2021 they finished 16th. Oddly in the intervening season (2022) they won the title.
Meanwhile Wolfsburg have finished 11th, 1st, 7th and 15th. Currently 10th.
After consecutive 4th place finishes Leverkusen are currently 15th and this is mid-March.
Augsburg lie 2nd at the moment, of the course they do following recent history that is 16th, 14th, 12th and 10th.
I could go on. It is like this for most sides. Quite odd.

Nice work and a fun read. Any recent tactical tweaks? What roles are you using for your CMs? You can probably ask the board to give you more than 30% of player sales now that finances are in good shape!

End of the Madness?
Hertha (14th) just beat Leverkusen (11th) in the Champions League Final. The most astonishing achievement in Hertha's entire history. They won the German top flight in 1930 and 1931 but little else until the title last season and then this extraordinary triumph in Europe.
Schmidt was hired as manager in 2020 and oversaw this unprecedented success.
The next day, yes that is the morning after, winning the Champions League, Schmidt was sacked. That's one of the most astonishing stories I've ever seen FM carve up.

That's crazy. What is their squad like? It's a bit weird but maybe just above average. Mid-table or top half Bundesliga.
They have got this 19 year old kid called Dorsch. He does not look all that but my scouts love him, capped six times by Germany with other clubs all over him and value is already £39m. Could take up to £86m to buy him so I'm leaving well alone. Apart from him its not screaming out too much at me. They've also just asked me to interview for manager and I just clicked past without a thought.

The 5th Season Done
Another season flies by. This time we've stalled a little with what was until this point previous continual upward trajectory. No matter we will be the better for it. We did settle down a bit as the season went on and if I were to point at one thing I'd say it was coping with Champions League football. We were 4th seeds in a fearsome group that knocked our confidence and gave us some tricky weeks of fixtures to negotiate.
Bayern and Dortmund restore the old one-two with Augsburg and Mainz taking their turn as the surprise party guests.
Unfortunately we were inauspicious in the Europa League and our love affair of the German Cup missed a season.
Nation Watch
As my career turns toward the medium to long haul here in Hamburg the squad is gradually returning to being predominantly German in makeup. I think there was a short spell where I grabbed potential wonderkids from wherever but that has settled down now. In fact seasons are probably proceeding more quickly due to relative transfer inactivity.
For next season I have a 30-man squad although that includes youth prospects being trained up. 17 of these are German. It's a bit better than it was and should go that way a little more now.
We have 3 players in the full German national team squad. 6 more in the U21s. 6 more in the U20s. Another 3 in the U19s.
In Marketing News
Yes the long awaited and much anticipated marketing section, grab a coffee.
Sponsorship is up with a big stadium deal. Leading scorer these past couple of seasons, Joveljic, is shifting some shirts.
But what in I expect to be big merchandising news is that the prodigal son will be returning. I've lumped most of the profits that the club has built up into a mega deal that obliterates all semblance of transfer records at the club. Not one of my previous deals comes close to this but I have made him an exception! On scouting him there were zero negatives, he loves the club as a supporter, has me and Vagnoman as favoured personnel and in turn is loved by the fans.

Season Six
This season was completed over a week ago before I took a break. I recall that it was rushed and ultimately a tad underwhelming. I think it is too much to expect to win the league but I do hope for better challenges than this with the squad that's now at the club.
In the league caption you can see just how tight it was between places 2nd to 6th with only two points covering that spread of five teams.
However when I look at 1st placed Bayern the gap is 9pts and they had a 26-goal superior goal difference to us also, and that seems pretty big to me.
Bayern's Muscle
A couple of seasons back I was remarking on how topsy turvy the league had been in this save. I'd expected a dominant Bayern side but hadn't encountered one. Something very significant happened though on this game date: 09 / 04 / 2022
That is the date when Jurgen Klopp became Bayern's manager and he has clearly turn the ship around.
At the start of this save Bayern's points totals slipped into the sixties. For context they should be capable of 80 points or higher as you'll see by their history below. But their standards had slipped, take a peak at their wins column and also the goals scored column.
Since Klopp's arrival points are going upwards; matches won are increasing and alarmingly goals scored is going North at a rate of knots. Back to back titles for the mighty Bayern and they are reloading.
In season 22/23 they spent £143m on transfers and captured Jeremy Doku for £70m. The next season spending goes up to £177m and includes Julius Brandt for £55m. And heading into the current season they have whacked £211m out and Kai Havertz arrived for £73m.
Their squad is absolutely loaded with quality players.
Facing the Challenge Ahead
I'm looking for a championship now but I'm convinced its only about to get harder. Points required to win the Bundesliga, I think, will be going upward of where it has been and the Munich juggernaut is just warming up.
I had a tricky summer here in Hamburg. Joveljic was getting ferocious attention but no one would meet what I deemed a fair price so he stayed. He's nicely under contract and he seems reluctant to turn on me which is a good thing but he has clubs trailing him. More worryingly one of my other key players has gone wonky. That player is Josh Vagnoman. He's Hamburg through and through but entering his last year on his current deal and refusing to discuss new terms. He has even told me that he intends to run this contract down and become a free agent next summer. Both key players are with us for now but there is growing uncertainty.
We are not quite geared for a full on arms race with Bayern yet but we are down to one loan with £23m left on it costing £205k per month. Champions League cash is helping an awful lot and wages are under control. No one earns £100k per week yet, Arp is the highest at £94k.
My response is these two great signings. Pereira comes from Benfica and could be one of the games outstanding regens, he has that look about him. I mainly use dual striker systems so it's two from three with him, Arp and Joveljic, although the latter could get taken in the not too distant.
Then comes Hansel. Naturally an attacking midfielder but not incapable of playing in central midfield. One of those rare transfers when you ask the board to get him and they agree and do the business on your behalf. One of my options is the diamond or 4312 and he'll play in the hole with those systems.
Hopes for this season are to challenge, reap the rewards of player development and sharpen the tactical pencil. Oh and I think a slice of luck might come in handy as well.

Halfway House (7th season)
For a little continuity and follow up on the end of my previous post, Vagnoman couldn't be deterred in his ambition to move on. He'll leave on a free to Man Utd at the end of the season. This is sad as he has played all his football at the club and nowhere else, been here for 10 years and lists himself as a 'supporter' of HSV. Shame.
Bayern only dropped a couple of points from their first dozen matches but the almighty fixture we had with them gave them a little tailspin.
Exactly halfway, in the winter break and it's pretty tight. Going to take more than 80 points I reckon and it's a 3-horse race.
Incidentally we are through to the ECL knockout stage with Barcelona awaiting us which is pleasant as we just enjoyed sharing a group with Real Madrid.

Plus
As the window closed I caved in on 2 more deals. Another so called diehard wanted a move to China (for a super size salary) in his family's best interests so farewell Van Drongelen. Plus I rather got worn down by the circus surrounding Joveljic. It was becoming a distraction. I wanted more than I got but created a record receipt nonetheless.
Two big influences depart. Lets hope that cracks don't emerge.

Yeah I am and have enjoyed FM19 but I’m terrible about writing up my saves. Can’t remember them all but did the obligatory rebuild Man U of course More recently I created Zemans son and emulated his philosophy with Pescara getting promoted them jumped to Roma cos they finished 17th and took them to Champions league glory on the back of this amazing AMC/shadow striker regen. From there I managed Bordeaux who had been relegated and built a system emulating Jardims Monaco 442 with a wide playmaker. Just resigned after winning the UCL to take on Athletic and the Basque only restrictions they have so that should be something diffferent. Sorry to clog your thread!

You've already mentioned some of my own favourite teams/saves. Utd fan as you know, soft spots for Pescara and Bordeaux and had a fab Roma save of my own 2018, similar Bilbao in 2017. Post in the general save thread occasionally, shadow strikers, Jardim's 442 all sound interesting to me. Tell us how you get to enjoy FM19. Good to see you anyway.
