Hey, I used to have an account here years ago when FMN first started out of the embers of The Dugout. But when I tried to login it said my account didn't exist or something so had to create a new one with the same account name? Anyway, I dunno how many people will remember me, I think my username on TD was 1349Norge and people use to "affectionately" call me Nordic Tin, or just Tin for short. No idea why. Since then I became much more involved with Football Manager and have become Head Researcher for all Middle East nations (Except Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE) as well as Laos and Mongolia. If anyone has any interest in volunteering to help out with research then any help is always appreciated as it's a lot of work for one person Just wanted to re-introduce myself

Hi kanwulf, I remember you as I'm sure plenty of others will too.
I moved the forum to Proboards from vBulletin a little while back now, so you'll have needed to create a new account because of that.
Nice one on becoming a Head Researcher. How does that work? What kind of research do you have to do? Watch games etc?

I just realised I posted this in the wrong sub-forum Yeah I try to watch as many games as I can, stalk clubs social media accounts and add players as friends on Facebook to keep up to date with them haha. I do head researcher for 10 nations so it can be quite overwhelming but overall I’m enjoying it a lot. At this point, I must be the most knowledgeable person about Iraqi football in the UK 🤣

What involvement do you have with SI? Presumably you have to report to someone?
Do they pay researchers these days or is it a voluntary position? I thought about getting involved in that side of things a long time ago now, but decided against it. Mainly because I didn't know what to research!

It’s all done by deadlines and certain tools. We get databases and have to fill out all data for the countries, like clubs, players, stadia, cities etc. They shifted to a new database client so I’m not sure how it’s going to be run from now on. Assistant researchers are solely unpaid but free copies of the game are provided with your name in the credits which is why I’m always dubious about looking for Assistants haha.

Hi mate, I do remember you from the oldtimes. Great to have a researcher in the forum and congrats on that as well. I'm interested on the details Nick asked as well, if I find more questions I'll ask them haha. Cheers!

I’ll answer things as best as I can within what I’m allowed to say. Not that SI have this top secret operation going, but I wouldn’t want to say something that they’d rather I didn’t tell people

Yes I remember you. So do head researchers get paid. About 20 years ago I was asked to be the Welsh football researcher. I said yes and went along with it for a while but soon gave up. There was no structure or accuracy checks made, no tools as such and I had to create a load of spreadsheets etc. It soon turned from an hobby to feel like a job so knocked it on the head.

I've only been Head Researcher for a year but it feels like it has improved a lot since you were HR of Wales. It still has many many faults but for the most part there is a bit more structure and a lot more communication from SI where beforehand they used to pretty much leave you to your own devices.

I was doing Assistant Researcher for Laos a while ago and found the Head Researcher for 90% of Asia to be an arrogant **** so I told him to shove it, then got in contact with SI myself and they offered me Iran and Jordan as Head Researcher and from there they slowly started to offer me more nations which was great because not only was I getting more opportunities, but I was also taking more nations from the former Asian HR who was neglecting most of them. For example, most Iraqi teams hadn't been updated since 2004!!! Thankfully I've now updated them as of this month, but it took a very very long time.
