As an NBA fan I'd love to be able to play some Basketball Manager, but since this doesn't exist I got inspired to make a NBA fantasy league myself for FM. This includes the 30 current NBA teams plus teams from Seattle and Las Vegas.
I can do some things with the editor but I'm by no means an expert, and this led to some struggles. Initially I intended to mimic the NBA playoffs where the 16 best teams play best-of-7 series to determine the champion. 7 games is a bit much in football though, so I tried creating 8 groups of 2 playing each other 4 times, with the winner advancing to the next round. I couldn't get this half right (problems with seeding, and the champion being named just being the best team during the regular competition instead of the playoffs winner), so I settled for an easier structure that could mostly be set up without the advanced editor.
Now every team plays each other once, after which the league is split. The top 8 teams advance to a standard knock-out structure. I want the points to be halved though after the split in order to get all teams closer to each other and give it a playoff feel (especially in the top half, the bottom half plays meaningless games anyway, but I might try to think of something to make it worth their while).
For some reason though, I can't seem to find a way to do this. I have used the settings underneath in order to do this (in all combinations, so with both options ticked or with just 1 of them ticked), but no matter what I try, the point totals are not adjusted, as you can see in the league table.
I know some of you have experience with alternative databases, so perhaps someone could point me at what I'm doing wrong? Would greatly appreciate it! An alternative way to achieve the same would just be to make draws and wins worth 2 and 6 points in the second stage, but I'd rather not go that way.
Another thing I was trying but that seems to be impossible is to start the save with some kind of fantasy draft, like the MLS draft but with more rounds, the best players in the world, and only occuring at the beginning of the save. There seems to be some way to edit drafts into a database, and I can get "Superdraft" to show up on the calendar, but nothing happens. No idea how to set this up so you can select players out of a specified group, but perhaps this is not even possible.
As an alternative, I now just use a database that made free agents of everyone in the game, so teams can go and get whoever they want. Reputations for other leagues and teams have been decreased so the only real competition should come from other NBA teams. For some reason though, some teams will go and sign star studded teams, while others just sign a bunch of crappy Mexican players. Maybe I'll just need to assign 11 good players to each team so all of them will be somewhat competitive, and leave all the top players free to sign. After holidaying a few seasons the differences in strength seem to decrease quite a lot though fortunately.
If anyone could help me with halving that would be fantastic. I think it has the potential to become a very competitive league with 32 fun teams to play as, and I think it looks pretty cool too.
