With the recent and tragic passing of Diego Maradona I'm super tempted to make a run at a YDWAWK with Argentinos Juniors. It'll be a super quick save to start off the year, while I wait for the African editor files for my Melilla save.

I finally settled on the game - I even got a punny title.

Just got the game -- going to start with Spurs to get a feel for things, and we'll see what grabs my attention from there.

I finally settled on the game - I even got a punny title. Isn't that about the only key requirement for a save?

I'm on the lookout for a new save, since my PSV save is nearing its end and I'm looking for a new challenge. Could you guys throw some cool ideas at me? Ideally in Europe and preferably something low down in top countries, or an interesting (but certainly not already one of the best) team in smaller countries. Currently I'm looking at Austria Klagenfurt, but I'm not sure how interesting the Austrian league is with just 12 teams.

I'll throw Oriental Dragon FC for one of the weirdest challenges you can see. They're a local team to me, and are riding on two back to back promotions. They have a couple of really interesting players in the team (one of their full backs for example wouldn't be too out of place in a mid to lower top league in Europe) despite playing in the third division in Portugal. Then to add to the fun - the portuguese leagues are getting some changes, so you'll see a new third division being implemented next season, and the way you do in the first league will determine if you go up to the second division, go to this new third division or stay in what will now be the fourth (or even go down to the unplayable leagues). To top it all off, Oriental Dragons was started by a Chinese businessman as a way to give youg chinese players European experience and exposure, so you'll be expected to get Chinese players in, and your regens will be Chinese.
Cons - there's a bug that hasn't been fixed yet where from the second season onwards some b teams play in the cup when they're not meant to.

I'm having a big issue with xml files at the moment. Having any xmls in my editor data folder results in it taking about 15 minutes to get from the loading screen to the main menu, and a further 10 minutes or so to get to the start save screen and then another 5 or so to get to the league select screen, which is absolutely killing my desire to play the game at the moment. I am looking for a save and that Oriental Dragon idea sounds really interesting Reiver but otherwise I'm struggling. Thinking maybe Bosnia or Eastern Europe somewhere, although Africa or Asia could be interesting.

I'm having issues with xmls too, though not as bad - it still takes me 2 to 3 minutes to load the files to choose and then for the save to go to the league selection too. I'm note sure if this has been flagged yet on the official forums.

Thanks for the suggestion Reiver! I'm gonna look into that, and maybe holiday the Portuguese leagues for a bit. Do you know if their regens use the youth rating of China as well? Because that will likely mean your youth intakes will be garbage into perpetuity.
Ouch that's annoying Dale, is this a known issue? I love Eastern Europe (as in, for travelling), but I'm always a bit worried the domestic side of things may become too easy quite quickly on FM.

I'm note sure if this has been flagged yet on the official forums. I've created a thread on the forum, not sure if it'll go anywhere, but at least it's there. I guess I just need to be less greedy, instead of throwing in every available file, I've just picked 30 or so I'd like to use and I'll just need to deal with it. @dirk it can do, depending on the league and the team. I usually like to play in smaller leagues/nations and focus more on the continental side of things than domestic. I'm thinking Bosnia just now, gonna load it up properly and take a look.

I've never managed in either too actually, mostly because they simply don't really attract me for some reason. The weirdness of the Belgium system actually appeals to me, although I believed they have changed it again. They tend to produce some nice youngsters too, and halving the points towards the end of the season will keep life interesting. I do believe they have like 40 games in a season at the top level though, which makes seasons pretty long. I'll definitely have a look at them!

A decent idea of a save I've envisioned in Europe could be trying to get the new Erling Håland in Bryne FK. Maybe sneak in a C&C and play with the actual Golden Boy and Martin Ødegaard as well (Strømsgodset is a good shout to play as, on the club side as well).

I think I may opt for a save in Poland. Have never managed there, and they are currently 29th on the coefficient ranking, which is pretty damn terrible for a country that loves football as much as they do and with a good national team. I haven't settled on a team and tier yet though, going to go through all of them and see if I find something that tempts me.

I usually have a save or two in Poland with every iteration of FM. It's a really fun team to manage in and there's a handful of teams that are all really interesting.

Go for the team from the village with less than 1000 people that's been in the top tier. For people looking at an interesting save, in Chile's first tier there's a team called Cobresal from que mining camp El Salvador. The "town" (it really isn't a town, it's a mining camp), has around 7-8k people, all in service of the mining companies that dig out mainly copper in the Chilean desert. The club is heavily supported by Chile's half owned state copper company CODELCO and their logo is similar. In the 80's the club qualified for the Copa Libertadores, and the regulations required that they played in a minimum 10k all-seater stadium. So yeah, the stadium's capacity is bigger than the town's population where it stands, as the "Estadio El Cobre" (The Copper Stadium) has now a capacity of 12k. They're a club with a couple of titles, they won the League in the Clausura 2015 (taking the title from Universidad Católica's hands at the last minute, it was glorious) and the Copa Chile in 1987. The club was last in the second tier in 2018, and has been a midtable team since. This save won't be there much longer, as CODELCO announced that El Salvador might close soon (as soon as 2021), due to the high costs of maintaining the mining operation there. Without a "city" to play in, (El Salvador will most probably become a ghost town in the desert after the miners leave), Cobresal is looking to relocate, probably to a city nearby, but they've even considered Santiago as an alternative. Secondly, I'm very fond of this team, because in 1994, at the Estadio El Cobre, La U were crowned champions, after 25 years without a top tier league title in Chile. That La U team was amazing, and spearheaded by a 19 year-old Marcelo Salas, the main reason why I started my love for football. Here is a photo of the stadium, an oasis in the desert. And an overview of the mining camp, including the stadium.

I had downloaded a Polish database down to tier 4 and holidayed a bit, and it crashed in 2023, so now I'm a bit worried about using it... It may not have had anything to do with the database, but I don't want see all that playing time go to waste. Cobresal looks surreal Chaodck!

A) in 3 seasons I holidayed, I wouldnt of put any into the first team - b) Chiniese clubs sniffed around but only for players on frees

I am really tempted by Chile, the more I think about it chaodck. Not sure if it'd be Cobresol or somebody else, but a South American league that doesn't use the Apetura/Clausura system is really quite appealing haha

I am really tempted by Chile, the more I think about it chaodck . Not sure if it'd be Cobresol or somebody else, but a South American league that doesn't use the Apetura/Clausura system is really quite appealing haha There are a few decent shouts. - Cobresal is interesting given the city and club status. - Cobreloa is one of the bigger clubs in Chile's recent history (has around 8 titles and is a two-time Copa Libertadores runners-up) and is currently in the second tier, since a few years now. Also the cantera of Cobreloa is quite impressive having produced Alexis Sánchez, Eduardo Vargas, Charles Aránguiz, Junior Fernandes, Francisco Castro among others. - Deportes Concepción is another interesting club choice, with a big history specially in the 70's and 90's. They disappeared into the amateur leagues being de-affiliated from the ANFP (Chile's football governing body), and since they have been re-founded and worked their way up. They currently play in the Segunda Division Profesional, Chile's third tier. I think Ben did a save with them not so long ago, though I might be wrong. - Fernandez Vial: Deportes Concepción's fiercest rivals. They have been a lower league team for a while now, and they were last in the first tier in 1993. They play in the Segunda Division Profesional as their rivals. - Deportes Puerto Montt: A second tier team in Chile for a while now, they enjoyed a spell on the first tier in the 90's. They are included in this list only because they play in my favourite stadium in the whole world. The Estadio Chinquihue. Further down, there are some decent shouts in lower divisions, Provincial Osorno (4th tier), Trasandino(4th tier), Lota Schwager(4th tier), Rodelindo Román (club owned by Arturo Vidal, (4th tier)) and Municipal Ovalle (5th Tier).

They currently stand dead last in the table, in severe risk of relegation (if the season is finished). In FM it'll be super easy though, as the game is heavily influenced by reputation adn they are still the country's most reputed club. In no time you'll be bossing things around.
