Cheers guys! At some point I couldn't believe we were beating all these big teams! I had a bit of a play around with a Mordovia Saransk save. They are not currently playing in a competition and I wanted to revive them, but I couldn't find a decent Russian database that has the second tier go back to 20 teams after the first season. I'd rather have added them in the 3rd or 4th tier, but I instead put them in the 2nd tier now. I turned off transfers in the first window because I thought of making it a kids save. Fair to say we are not up for the level of this league though haha. I think I'll be on the lookout for something else, or a proper Russian league structure database...

I wish they had implemented the way that team works in real life - they can sign players as long as they originally came from their academy.

There is a guy with a cool save with Chertanovo over at the SI Forum ( Link). I think he recreated the team in the database so he can sign players from his own academy. I have come up with a new save though; Rapid București in the Romanian second tier. I'm planning to properly write about it this time, and hopefully it sticks.

Right, gonna fine something new to do on FM I think. Played 3.5 seasons with Palermo, but it's just starting to feel like a frustrating, random number generator.
I've also realised I'm not great at dealing with promotions in bigger nations, so that might factor in to where I manage next, hmm

I'm getting to the midseason on my save. I'll post a bit about it here and probably make a thread once I finish the first season. Progress has been slower than what I expected, I'll explain why when I post maybe later tonight or tomorrow.

I've settled on a save for when I start with FM21 (Iceland, possibly developing into a Nordic journeyman) but I'm waiting for the final patch and I'm also undecided as to whether to go with the full version or Touch. I'm enjoying FMT20 with Trapani but also thinking that for a 'main' save I will probably want the extra bits and pieces from full FM.

So, yeah I said I'd post. I'm playing with La U, not a C&C yet, only with la U to make the game quicker. I'll probably take the NT when I see some nice newgens as that was a problem last version and it frustrated me a lot. I'm playing a custom league structure, imitating the English system, I'll go deeper on that when I post the real thread. I also lowered the ability of several La U players as we're struggling a ton in real life and I expected a hard first season. I started in 2021, meaning the 2020 season was simulated and La U qualified for the Copa Libertadores (which was a disappointment as I really didn't want to play in it the first season). Unfortunately, it hasn't been as hard as I expected and I was incredibly lucky in the Libertadores draw. League's been going good, despite some hard losses specially at the end of the first half, with a really bad May and June. We still hold on to the lead in the table but everything is super tight. We also played in the Supercup at the start of the season and during the first half we played on the League Cup. We won the Supercup against Universidad Católica, and advanced all the way to the Final of the League Cup, which will be played in September. We've played the League Cup mostly with a "B" team, playing a lot of youngsters. I plan on doing this all save long, no matter what the results are. As I said, the Libertadores was super lucky in terms of draw, we drew a lower Argentinean side, an Ecuadoran side and a Peruvian side. We aced the group winning 5 of the 6 games, only losing against Independiente del Valle once we were secure atop the group. The luck continued and we avoided big teams in the Second Round and we'll play Independiente Medellín in July. The squad is looking decent, but we have a ton of areas to improve. We're currently playing a 4-2-3-1, rated a 5-star tactic according to the Tactical Resource. The team hasn't performed great at all times and I pinpoint that we aren't great in terms of individual talent, nor we have the best players for the roles selected. And I attribute all of the success to the cohesive tactic we're playing. I had posted another intake pic last night, but unfortunately I lost the save due to a blackout (my laptop doesn't have a battery), so yeah this is the real intake preview, far worse than the former was, with only 2 decent players. Finally the save generated a few newgens at the start of the save to fill youth teams, and we were super lucky with 2 great prospects, Andrés Musrri a 5-star PA GK who already looks like a good choice and Josué Pappe, a 16-year old CM/AM who is already playing for the U-20 NT in the U-20 World Cup. Pappe also debuted already for the senior squad, scoring on his debut on the League Cup. That's all for now. Progress has been slow as I'm a bit unhappy with how easier than expected this has started to be. Hopefully I can finish the season during the week and post a proper update. Cheers!

It's werid how the FM version that I feel is the most fun in a long time for me is at the same time making it so hard for me to keep a save.

I will do a proper write-up for this today. The season ended up being a bit longer than what I anticipated, with around 60-65 games per season if you manage to get to later stages of both national cups and one continental competition. At times I thought of going back to zero and edit things a bit to make seasons shorter, maybe eliminating the League Cup, but I plowed through with it in the end and I just finished the season. I'd guess I'll play around 60-65 games each season, but I plan on forcing me to play the whole League Cup for U-21 players only, even if I get derbies or big games. Any opinions on the amount of games? Would you tone it down if you had the chance? Cheers!

damn, that rivals brazilian football seasons! Yeah I know. I won both Cups and got to the Libertadores Semifinals. So that means always a lot of games. League Cup is 5 games (First Round, Second Round, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final with one-legged ties), Copa Chile is 12 games (5 group games played in the winter break, Second Round, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final with two-legged ties and a one-game Final), League is 34 games. That amounts 52 domestic games including the SuperCup. Copa Sudamericana is 13-15 games (2 preliminary games, 6 group games, Second Round, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final with two-legged ties and a one-game Final) and Copa Libertadores is 13-17 games (4 preliminary games, 6 group games, Second Round, Quarter-Final, Semi-Final with two-legged ties and a one-game Final). That makes the 65 games I was talking about, but it means you get to the later stages of all competitions.

From a FM-perspective it's a bit of a shame really. I would love to do a kids save in Colombia or Brazil, but the next youth intake is 80 away so it takes forever to make some progress...

At the risk of making myself sound a bit more like Doc than I'd like (kudos if you get the reference) make sure you're checking out the youtb set up of the bigger south american nations every July, it seems like they're producing some really decent young prospects at lower league level. Nothing world beating, but I'm about to grab these 3 on bosman deals...hopefully. Ignacio Arias - Argentina U19's, recently released by third tier side Sportivo Las Parejas Tiago Henrique - Brazil U20's - Bosman from Serie C side Sao Bento Rogerio - Brazil U19's - Bosman from Serie D side Atletico Acreano I really wanted Josue more than any of them, but he wanted a bit too much and a sub £1m release clause, which I wasn't having any of.

So nice when you have two first team GKs in the squad, and then this happens: 10 days until the next day (thank good for international breaks), but it'll still be touch and go whether i'll need to use a 2 silver star keeper in my next game.

I said to self. after my China save I would like non british and short seasons, but also a large or bigger club, but nothing seemingly stuck, seems to be a curse for us all this fm21.
Rather than create a short lived thread.
Ended up in the English Premier League, so muh for my conditions, eh!
Reliesed not actually done a Newcastle save yet
So far, we are 8th after 29 games. got to the Quarter finals of Carabao Cup, where we lost 1-0 to Spurs, and lost in the 5th round 3-1 to Leicester. We could sneak europe by finishing 7th, but realistical;ly we could be as low as 13th. Ashley wanted mid table at the start of the season.
We have been taken over by the old Sporting president, that ended in a mess with players contracts being terminated etc. Hopefully fm dont have stats reflecting that side of him. The 5 year plan is just to remain established in the premier league, he has accepted to upgrade facilities and to expand St James Park to just shy of 60k
The deals out that are over 1m
the ins so far
We have a deal for Morelas at end of the season for just shy of 20m
We are playing a slow tempo counter attaking brand of football in a 4411 or simply 442 especially as our midfielders and defenders are not the paciest players. Hopefully Wilson dont get injured though, or else we will struggle!

Tried to start a few saves, but abandoned them. Eventually settled on a kids' save with Athletic Bilbao (I'll start a thread recapping this season in more detail once it's over). The first season's gone far better than could've been expected: in April, we still have to play Real Madrid and Barca away, but after 29 matches, we're in second, two points behind Real Madrid and 9 ahead of third-place Levante (Barcelona has lost 4 in a row and is in 5th, 4 points out of the CL places). I've been using a tactic similar to Marcelino's in real life: a high-tempo, fluid counter-attacking 4-4-2 (sometimes a 4-4-1-1), and it's worked a treat, as we've scored 57 goals (third in the league) and conceded 16 (second). Both Asier Villalibre and Inaki Williams have been knocking them in, with Williams tied for the league lead with 19 goals. Iker Muniain has 11 assists, one behind the league leaders. A key part of a kids' save, of course are the regens, and this was an...interesting class. I could use some advice on how to develop a few of them. The most promising prospects (screenshots compiled here): - Sergio Vidal: a 6'5" (at 16! He should be playing basketball!) DM/MC/DC. Unsurprisingly good in the air, but not very good on the ball. I'm thinking about focusing on him as a CB, as his pace isn't terrible in that position. He needs some work on his mentals, but those should come.
- Inigo Uriarte: a pretty mentally-advanced DR. He's already quite a good passer, but he's never going to be quick. I'm halfway thinking about retraining him as a DM due to his lack of pace, as I think he could be a solid regista or DLP (paired with a better destroyer, because his marking is never going to be spectacular) if we can work on his vision. Another option might be to turn him into a left-sided defending inverted wingback, so he can help recycle possession but not be caught too high up the pitch.
- Mario Perez: more of an attacking WBL. He's already competant at ML, and I'm thinking about turning him into a DW (especially if paired with Uriarte long-term as an IWB). If his dribbling and OTB were a bit higher, I'd envision him more as a complete WB, but he could also be a perfectly good supporting wingback with a run less with ball instruction.
- Ibai Arana: a no-nonsense DM/DC. He could be a good partner for Vidal at the back, as he'll be solid in the air, is a bit slower, and could be decent at recycling the ball. Otherwise, I could train him as a halfback. He'd be great either way.
- Igor Lacruz: Seems pretty perfectly suited to be an AP-S coming off the left wing. He wants to get into the opposition area, though he'll never be a great finisher and make killer passes, and he's already quite good at the key areas aside from finishing and anticipation.
- Edorta Bilbao: Quite slow (and bad in the air!) and unambitious for a striker. We'll see, but I'm not optimistic about how he'll develop. He has a decent technical and mental base though.
- Unai Gabilondo: I quite like his technical base as an IW, and hopefully his vision and pace come along a bit.
- Juan Diez: We'll see how much potential he ends up with, but his starting attributes aren't half bad. I could see him playing a few different roles on the left wing, so I'm wondering where to start.
Speaking of, has anyone gone in-depth on youth development? I know Nick was playing with this last year, but I was put off by losing the development center, which is an overview I quite like. Do you still lose the development center if you take on your own youth training setup?
