Welcome to my Football Manager 2011 thread. As you can tell by the title I will be managing Cray Wanderers, with the aim of going from non league to glory! The main aim of this save is to take Cray all the way from the National League South to the Premier League and not only win the Prem but the Champions League as well. I'm expecting this to be a looong save as we are 5 leagues below the Prem, and I'm hoping it will be a long save as the longest save I've ever had on any FM game is only 5 seasons, which is rather disappointing considering how much I love Football Manager and play it.
2010/2011 Season:
I started this save about a week ago and just finished my first season earlier today. To start with I used the in game editor to swap Boreham Wood who had the lowest reputation in the National League South with Cray. Normally I would of downloaded a English lower league add on but I couldn't find one, not a surprise considering FM11 is 11 years old. Other than changing competition names to what they are in real life today, and changing a few player names.. Alex Chamberlain has been renamed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain nothing else had been changed. No players were edited to make them better (or worse) I'm very much against cheating. My aim for the first season was simple, to survive. If we were relegated I would of been sacked due to not having any lower playable leagues. Not signing any players for the first season (a rule I set myself) definitely made this a challenge, add in we only have a reputation of 800 and the team with the second lowest has 1200, we will struggle to attract players/staff as it is.
I loaded all the playable leagues of England, top two leagues of Italy, Spain, France and Germany, with a large database and every player of English nationality as well as every player based in England. My database size is 42,000.
First season target achieved. Lucky for me, Dorchester and Dartford had terrible seasons, neither were expected to do well, Dorchester were predicted 20th and Dartford 15th but still, when we went on a terrible run of 12 defeats in a row both sides had a even worse run, picking up just 1 point. In fact, both of them were in the relegation zone all year. We spent a lot of time in the relegation zone after St Albans, who started the season on -10 points overtook us, thankfully Lewes who were expected to struggle, did just that and ended up falling behind us. After Lewes dropped into the relegation zone we never dropped below 19th. I'm guessing luck was on my side because every time we lost or went on a losing streaks (it happened a lot) none of them three teams took advantage and with two games to spare we survived. Every Cup competition we lost in the first round so I won't bother posting screenshots of them.
As you can see, we didn't really have any stand out players. No player hit double digits for goals. I will definitely be buying a striker next year! If I had to pick who my player of the season would be it would be split between Carl Gibbs and Tyrone Sterling. Despite scoring just 1 goal as a striker Gibbs did get 11 assists with most of them coming by corners. Sterling played at Left Midfield and is also natural at Left Back so played there a few times, he scored a fair share of goals, most of them coming from coming in at the far post and scoring. At one point he got MOTM 3 games in a row.
As mentioned I didn't sign a single player all year only getting rid of the randomly generated regens due to the non league sides having a small squad. I released them all as I only count regens from the start of the second season only. I normally only sign 5 players per year, I'm still unsure whether I will continue with that for this save or not. I'm leaning more towards yes, but I have to be careful due to not having any lower leagues.
Anyway thanks for reading!
