Thanks chaodck hope you get some progress soon too! I'm happy enough with the stint in charge, I just feel that we were probably better than we showed in the World Cup, but it was such a mixed bag of average young talent and a few ageing straggler real players that were still kicking around. jawzy I always seem to stick to realism before I do any expansion/fantastic/superleague stuff so I'm probably not the best person to ask. Now I'm home from work with an hour or two to kill, so it's time to play the waiting game and see what, if any, decent jobs become available. EDIT: It's nice to feel wanted, but I think I'm done with International management for now!

I need to go to bed soon, but I'll leave you with this... I was holding out for an interview with Vasco, and the Al Hilal job just opened up, which would've been massive for me in Asia, but when I had the interview and the job offer from Portland, I decided to go for it. We'll see if it proves to be the right call or not!

Mls A league i would love to do but just never seem to get going with the chaos and rules.
Chosing a canadian side within mls feels abit less ruley to me, even then never really got hooked.
I know you have managed few seasons in mls before

Yeah, I really enjoy the MLS but even now struggle to get my head around some of the rules. Every time I think I'm getting a hang of things, something comes out of left field that I can't quite figure out the reasoning behind. So, with that in mind, a few seasons as part of a journeyman is probably the best way for me to experience MLS.
Coincidentally, one of my favourite ever saves was a journeyman where I spent a few years with the very same Portland Timbers.

So, finally finished the season hahaha. We had another great, great season and kept improving constantly. We had a few good runs, 5 straight wins early in the season (Benevento, Empoli, Bologna, Ascoli and Sampdoria), and then a great 10 game unbeaten run with 7 wins (Benevento, Napoli, Empoli, Ascoli, Sampdoria, Roma and Sassuolo) and 3 draws (Fiorentina, Bologna and Milan). We only had one bad run, back in January with just 1 win (Genoa), 5 league losses (Atalanta, Udinese, Lazio, Juventus and Inter) and one Coppa Italia loss (Juventus). We didn't finish strong also, as we got only 4 of the last 15 points, but most of our fate was decided already. We finished up 5th, I feel that with a bit more of luck I could've fought for the UCL, but the Europa League is a great prize at this stage. We had a great crop of newcomer players, who played great roles. Nei was a beast at goal, but had a bad final part of the season, then Allan Esquivel was another great incoming player, both using our non-EU player slots. Tamás Toth quickly won over the starting role in midfield, a player in a very Arturo Vidal mold. Our top player was Jamie Lawrence who was one of the best Serie A defenders this season and Nikola Iliev, whose loan was again renewed for next season. We had a decent intake, yet nothing too spectacular. The Board was taken over after the season ended, as the Chairman wanted to retire. A new guy showed up, made no promises and kept the same budgets and objectives. So boring. We have around €45M in the bank and the team gave me around €13M to spend, which I assume will be upgradeable when I get to select my objectives. Regarding next season, I think we need a bit of backup as some of our young backups are not at the required level. Also I desperately need a right fullback. That might be the biggest urgency this offseason.

You are doing an absolutely ridiculous job there chaodck I'm very jealous! I've never been able to find consistent form with clubs whilst moving up the ranks, fair play to you! Looking financially safe, which is massive for a club of that size in that position too. European football is going to be huge!

We're still dead last in the Serie A payroll, and that has led to a ton of work in the offseason to try and bring good players, haha.

First of all, there's too many teams in the MLS in the future. I'm old enough to remember when there was only 12. There might've been less before that, but I definitely remember the 3x4 conferences. 28 teams? Typical American madness, that. Anyway, I guess I'll stop ranting now. When I took over we were 26th in the overall table, 2nd bottom of our conference. 7 wins and 3 draws from the 10 games in charge catapulted us up to 15th overall and 9th in our conference and unfortunately just shy of a playoff place. We are, however, obviously taking a lot of confidence forward into next season. It's always a weird experience when you add/remove leagues and you'll find a lot of clubs struggling for no obvious reason. The Timbers, for example, won the CONCACAF CL earlier in the year but were almost bottom of the country when I took over. I'm not really sure what to expect going forward because I'm obviously not 100% on the rules. We're sitting right on our salary cap and I only have one keeper, so that's going to have to change. We've £14m in the bank and £6m to spend on transfers, as well as having the draft coming up. I'll probably look to make some better use of our Designated Players, as one is 35, another - Valentin Apachitei is on his way to AEK and the last, Corentin Kern simply isn't good enough to be hogging a DP slot. It's how I manage to free up space outside of these players that will impact things the most, hopefully I'll make a bit more sense of the rules this time!

Model Pro personality, 20 for Working with Youngsters?! Guess who'll hopefully be joining me at every club I go to from now on. Wow he's good. Is he a newgen or someone from an obscure league? He isn't on my save. On other matters, I just finished the pre-season. Ratherly uneventful, but I brought in 2 new players who might become truly good. Aled Lane is the answer to our RB prayers, ok he's not world-class but is an upgrade and will develop into a player fitting our style, besides he cost us just €1.9M. On the other hand Niclas Wilkens might already be the best player to ever step into a pitch in a Ravenna shirt. The Dane is our first wonderkid and despite just costing us €4.3M his value skyrocketed to €68M as soon as he arrived on the training ground. He was being followed by Bayern and Dortmund among other, but we managed to swoop him swiftly.

Ah jawzy sorry to hear that mate. Hope you feel better soon! I had it around this time last year and it wasn't the most fun I've ever had. Sorry chaodck I could've sworn I posted a reply to you! Those players look great and Wilkens particularly looks like a massive coup. He's still got room to improve and I can see him making you a lot of money down the line. As for the HOYD Paul Farrel-Tuperu, he is in the game at the start but you must need to either have a massive db or oceania loaded, he starts in the Cook Islands with the team in my screenshot. When I started a new save to see how he was, he still had Model Pro personality and 20 for WWY. Everything else was pretty low, so his PA could be random. He has, however, worked his way up to a continental pro licence, so potentially if you get him early and work through his badges, he might always get that good. Anyway, I'm getting ready to go to the dentist for a few exractions...wish me luck!

My first full season in the MLS is done. We were pretty strong throughout the campaign with the exception of one little blip around the middle of the season where we only won 1 of 7 games, either side of that spell we were fairly dominant, however. We managed to wrap up the conference with a convincing win over our Cascadia Cup (local) rivals Seattle and a scrappy penalty shootout with over San Jose, but unfortunately the MLS Cup was a bridge too far. For anybody (I mean, I say anybody but it's really just the 3 of us left ) who doesn't know, the MLS Cup is the main league playoff final. Similar to how the South American Clausura/Apertura lead to a final playoff at the end usually. As far as the team is concerned, we managed to strengthen our core by utilising our two Designated Player spots better by signing Bolivian international midfielder Rolando Jordan from Bolivar and I was reunited with my former Senegal striker Talla Gueye who joined from Algerian side CS Sfax for £1m as his contract was 6 months out from expiry. We also snapped up Elliott Stennman from the draft and goalkeeper Stuart Rios comes in from LA Galaxy As far as my career is concerned, I'm fairly comfortable with the idea of staying here for another year. I've added the top 6 or 7 European leagues, but if i'm honest I'm really not in a rush to move to Europe, or at least not to one of the bigger leagues? I might start adding some smaller leagues like Turkey, Switzerland or Russia and see if something a bit more interesting comes up, but I'm also not ruling out Brazil, Argentina or back to Africa/Asia if the move was right. I'm having fun just milling about and doing my own thing, but processing times are starting to catch up with me and at 225k player count, I'm not sure how much more the save can last.

I feel like im over the worst of it now. thankfully. tho im not willing to dive into reading fc just incase i make a fatigued error that ruins the save, so ill try a short term save somewhere else.

My sense of smell came back first, then my sense of taste but they weren't quick. Maybe 4 and 6 weeks? Hopefully it's much quicker for you, but yeah it made food very boring and I ended up losing weight because I found that I just wasn't interested in making food.

I was beginning to think that I'd never find a new club. After unsuccessful interviews at Sao Paolo, Internacional and Botafogo, as well as unsuccessful applications at Bayern, Inter, Al-Ittihad and Al-Sadd (probably a few others too) I was finally offered my chance to escape at struggling Brazilian side Fluminense. I wont pretend that I wasn't enjoying Portland, it was fun, but the MLS and it's rules were a bit frustrating, as I mentioned in my first post when I took over, every time I think I've got my head around the rules and the financial side of the league something changes that I can't figure out. So now it's Brazil, a bunch of massive clubs, young talent and roughly 5 million matches per season. Sorted! I'm not entirely sure if this counts as a step up or not? My reputation is now at 65%, where it was at 60 before, but my star rating is now 3.5* National, when it showed 3* Continental before, so I really don't know. News like this definitely makes the transition easier: So that's fun! My old Cook Islander HOYD is currently the caretaker manager at Portland and wasn't interested in coming to Brazil with me, which is a shame. This is probably the only club I've been at so far where I can see myself staying a few seasons and changing the backroom staff. Ultimately, and I know I've said this a few times, but I don't know how much longer this save will last. Journeyman saves are ridiculously fun and I was having great fun with one on CM01/02 as the inspiration for this, but the Add/Remove leagues feature is really pretty borked with how it handles finances and the like, and i'm now sitting at almost 275k players in the game, so processing is becoming really slow. I'll keep going for now, but we'll have to play it by ear.

I'm impressed by (and envious of!) your save there chaodck. You seem to be able to consistently produce these saves of sustained progress and success.
I'm still chipping away at my FM21 Forest save but really dissatisfied with my tactics at the moment. I need to stop and have a tactical reset somehow before plodding on again.
I will definitely be getting FM23 though - a database with Forest in the Premier League and Volendam in the Eredivisie!! Worth its weight in gold.

Also look forward to the few seasons in brazil, only issue i wont expect a speedy update due to the 18 state games? 38 lague games, though brazils cup is lucrative!

I only loaded the leagues of the continent I wanted to start in, which was about 6 oceanic nations and Australia. I've slowly added more leagues when I've wanted to move continents, whilst removing the leagues that I knew I'd never go back to, but obviously once you start doing that, the game has to generate players etc, and those players can't just magically disappear when you remove the league from the game. The game seems to have a hard time with this though, for example a bunch of the players at Man City who're earning upwards of £1m p/w were just generated when I added England a year or so ago.
As far as custom leagues go, as long as the xml is present when you create the save, you can load that league at any point.

I haven't booted up FM in a week or so. I'm currently in USA, at my sister's house. Last week was a holiday week for me as my brother was here as well, I never even booted up my PC during the week haha. This week is a work week for me though (I work remotely from here, as my job is a PC job only), so I might boot up FM at some point and advance a bit. I'm struggling a lot with arm tendonitis though, which makes PC usage hard and makes the condition worsen, so I won't promise anything. I'll keep tabs on your stories, though.

I will probably have to start with smallest database possible, otherwise this laptop may spiral out of control in 20 seasons time?
