Reviving an old thread, just to see if I can get a better idea. I had envisioned a save where I played in one of Spain's territories in Morocco (Melilla or Ceuta) and only be allowed to sign African players. Thing is, La Liga rules about non-eu players is quite strict, and thus I don't think the save could've worked. I'm still looking forward to the idea though so I'm looking for a big(ish) european league without much non-eu/foreign rules. Germany is my first thought as the only rule is that you must register at least 12 german players, which is easy as I could register the ones that come through the youth team and just not play them, signing only african talent. Any other decent shout? Cheers lads.

It would work, as nationalities that are in the Cotonou agreement are treated as eu. and there is alot of african nations in that agreement
Nationas that are eu in spain

Cheers mate, still not having Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria as EU is kinda save-breaking for me as they bring quite interesting players to the mix. I think I will go with Germany, despite the save made a bit more "sense" in Spain haha.

For me it'll be a lower league team in england/scotland as a inexperienced manager and working my way up. Will be using some mods i think to help out such as best free transfer database and these different training schedules found here fumacrom.com/aPj4

Yeah, unfortunately it kinda has.
I'm not gonna pretend I'm not partly at blame for this, as I've neglected the site in recent months, but unfortunately most of the people that were most active have either struggled to connect with the game, as Robson has referenced, or have fallen out of love with the game.
It's a shame really, but as time moves on it becomes more and more inevitable

I've played more FM in the last month than I probably had in the 4 or 5 months previously combined. So I'm kinda getting back into the groove with it, but the urge to play disappeared for days and weeks at a time. In my younger days, it was all I ever played, to the detriment of school, uni, work and any other game that came out. Any time I was doing anything else, I kept thinking "I could be playing FM right now, why am I not?". Oh to be young again

Definitely not your fault Dale, that's for sure.
I suspect it's a combination of a number of different things. I was like you when I was younger but now I have a dozen other things that are higher up my list of things that I want or need to do. Add that to a game that seems to me to have become significantly more challenging and demanding of your time and just sitting down, firing up the game and starting a new save properly feels like the kind of thing I need to plan weeks in advance. I'm still messing around with some old saves and thinking of going very retro (and maybe even writing about the very retro save!) but I have a couple of hours a week rather than a day spare for FM at the moment.

(I'm glossing over the fact that the last few versions have made it clear to me that I'm really not that good at tactics and one of the reasons I am going retro is with the potentially false idea that it used to be simpler to build a single dominant tactic in the good old days...!)

This is a massive thing for me, honestly. As a general rule I don't watch football (I'll watch the Euro's and World Cups, and I'll catch Rangers games if I'm not working), so I'm really not well versed on tactics, nor do I really pretend to understand how to implement them in FM. I'm currently into season 5 in Poland with Slask Wroclaw, but in the past fortnight this is save number 4... I've had 1.5-2 season long saves with Willem II, Werder Bremen and Auxerre...all three of them were exactly the same pattern: Overachieve season 1, capitulate season 2, go in a huff and quit because I don't know what to do when things stop working. With each passing game, tactics become more intricate and, in my experience anyway, more black and white in terms of what absolutely will and wont work. So if things don't instantly click for my team, it's a good chance that my save will go nowhere. It's why every few months I'll go back and play CM 01/02 for a couple of weeks, it's just good, quick fun.

Speaking of CM 01/02, this is my current Rangers side as of 2008. Henrik Friis is Peter Schmeichel's regen Mickael Dos Santos is Laurent Blanc's regen Andrieolos and Skalidis are two of the "super greeks" that were potentially fictional players that are considered super OP, kinda like To Madeira or Maxim Tsigalko. Skalidis has 335 goals in 315 games On the bench: Jason Burrows is Tim Flowers's regen Tobros is a super greek CB Jason Farley is Gazza's regen and one of the best midfielders in the world (currently injured) Domestically we've won everything, as expected, although this league title will go right down to the wire it seems, as Celtic have stopped being shit for a little while, but European success has never been on the cards yet. EDIT: Just loaded up the save for the first time in a while and we're in the Champions League quarter final against Real Madrid. Think this has been the farthest we've ever been

Good, quick fun is what I want from FM (that, and the chance to turn Forest into the greatest team that has ever lived!).
If I look back at FM20, which I did enjoy, the two tactics I had most success with were (1) a slightly adapted version of the tactic that Guido explained so well in the Deportivo group save and (2) one I found on a blog that looked like it fit my squad very well (it did) but then when that started to go wrong I had no idea what to tweak.
When I posted earlier, I had FM13 in mind, but I've actually reinstalled FM11 and realised that this was (a) a version of FM where I did well with Forest, but not brilliantly (I think one Premier League title before my ageing laptop died) and (b) my favourite Forest squad of the last two decades, so I will be playing FM11 for a little while.

Ah, case in point. A few games in to season 5 with Slask, and it's looking like complete tactical overhaul for the 4th straight season because once again, the style of play that got us 2nd place in the league last season is once again not working...no rhyme or reason, just once again a bit shit.

Currently I'm managing Oldham, won the L2 title in the first season, L1 runners-up by 3 points (lost the title to Birmingham in the second-to-last fixture of the year as they beat us 2-1). All done with a 4-2-3-1 possession 5-star tactic according to the website with no player instructions. Super simple, almost plug-and-play like. I want to make a bit of changes to it now though as despite being possession high press football it's a bit boring football. Heading into my third season, the Championship might be a strong test for the team, specially having spent the sheer amount of £230k on transfers in both seasons. I might post about the save as I'm playing with "fictional" players and thus at that low level all players are newgens to me.

Yeah, I've been using rate my tactic too, as well as the site/guide it references from as it's a bit more descriptive. It's really good at getting my tactics and ideas started. The big issue I'm having at the moment is the old myth/old wives tale that FM "figures out" your tactics. I'm having to make drastic changes each season to try and get us back to playing as well as we did the season previous. I won the league in the 2nd season and was threatend with the sack in the 3rd, pulled it back to finish 4th, and then struggled again the next season before switching tactics and rinse and repeat. I just miss the simplicity of the older games where having a solid tactic and good players was enough to usually do at least reasonably well. Whereas now it seems like having one player in the wrong role, or one TI set incorrectly to how the game "wants" you to play will make or break an entire save.

I used Rate My Tactic too and thought it was really good, but there's so much else about the newer versions that just catches me off balance. For example, I briefly reinstalled FMT21 and decided to start a new save with a top tier side in Sweden (it was either Orebro or Norrkoping) within a week of taking over, before I'd played my first friendly, my star youngster had been the subject of a bidding war and the board had sold him out from underneath me. I think the transfer market is so much more aggressive in the newer versions. It's almost certainly more realistic too, but I feel like if you haven't got a really good handle on your squad before you click Continue the first time, the game can quickly leave you reeling.
I admire SI for making it this realistic, but I'm increasingly realising that this level of realism is way beyond what I really want from the game.

Any advice on seagulls? Being from rural bedfordshire in england Seagulls were about but they werent this vocal 24/7 Im on the west coast at mo. I do feel after a month being here that it has became ambience but occasionally there seems to be a few that make it there desire to be as loud as possible.
Also im yet to be poo bombed. But last few days, i have recieved warnings. Or a gull with the worst aim?
Am i being targetted? Any way to reduce the prospect of seagull shite when it feels like they aiming for you?
Also what does it mean if im walking in a street and one is circulating above me kicking up a racket? Was he threatened by me?
Possibly a question for dale, not sure how bad perth is for seagulls? Been to perth once. And i remember we visited the hermitage near dunkeld that day? Iirc some of the tallest trees in the uk are in that area too?

What an amazing post @jawzys. So firstly, The Hermitage is beautiful, fucking love that place.
Secondly, Seagulls, as hilarious as it will sound, are actually a major problem at the moment...particularly in Perth. Throughout Scotland, they seem to be becoming more and more aggressive and territorial and nobody seems to be able to figure out why. Not sure if the extended lockdown has made them braver with less people about or what, but yeah, it's genuinely an issue.
My best mate has had to change the route he walks home from our work now because if he takes a particular road, there's a group of seagulls that will continually divebomb you for the entire mile or so long stretch of road, and because they're a protected species, there is pretty much fuck all anybody can do about it.
So...aye...welcome to Scotland. If the heroin doesn't get you, the seagulls will.

This forum seems to have sadly died This is true. Hopefully when FM22 comes out it will pick up again. I've not been online for a long time, I sold my laptop that I played FM on, I kept getting frame rates and it made it no longer fun for me. Tried playing mobile again, but that was rubbish compared to the main/touch version. I did recently buy FM21 on the Switch and I've already hit 100 hours after just over a week of buying it. Hence why I'm back. I had a very fun save as Melbourne Victory but unfortunately was sacked, then had a great save with Elgin, but lately I've fancied managing somewhere new and started a save with Cwmbran Celtic in Wales. Hope everyone is well.
