Im liking the intakes im getting in Dusseldorf. I will have to show some of them off, one has been playing the odd game here and there aged 17! but it does mean I end up with two Zimmers on my right side!

Carlsberg don't do youth intakes, but if they did... A really good intake this season giving us 3 particularly good prospects across 3 key positions. Lorenz Fischer, Niklas Kohler and Marcel Hahn are all looking like really exciting prospects and will almost definitely start to feature from next season and have the potential to become real stars for the club, especially as we're still particularly strapped for cash. Wow, that looks fantastic, what about their personalities?

Yeah, I'm absolutely chuffed to see how some of them develop. Meanwhile, another season has ended in Austria. A similar season to last really. Overall I'm happy enough with that. We almost made it in to the championship group, we sat 6th until two games before the split. but unfortunately those two games were against Austria Wien and Rapid Wien, both of which we understandably lost, so it just wasn't to be. However, that said, I'm happy enough. We released 9 players last summer, including a few first team players, to try and clear some of the wage bill. We brought in 8 new players across the course of the season, so it was definitely a bit of a transitional season and I'm comfortable with the idea of us as a secure Bundesliga side now. It'll still take a while to find our feet, and we'll still need to rely on free transfers and loans from our parent clubs Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, but that's absolutely fine for now, especially if we continue to produce the sort of prospects that we've seen come through this season. All three of them could well be in the first team next season, so that's exactly what we're needing. We end this season £2m in the red, which is obviously far from ideal, but hopefully some new sponsorship money, more season tickets and potentially higher attendances might start to see their way to helping us with this issue! If not, all we can hope for are some decent sales and maybe a lucky European qualification!

You might look at those images briefly and say "well done Dale, great season", and I'd forgive you, I would. But take a closer look. 10-3-9 record going into the split. 10-4-18 coming out of it. We lost 15 of our last 18 games, 9 of our 10 post split fixtures. We just completely, out of nowhere, feel apart. And the only reason the save is even continuing is because I'm talking to you lot about it and feel I should persevere. If I wasn't, I'd have deleted it in a rage by now, but here we are. I don't actually know what to do for next season. it was, in part, somewhat of a transitional season as some older players are declining rapidly and I've brought in younger players into the starting team (Bojanov, Hahn and Fischer from previous updates all now feature in the first team), but I'll be bringing more up next season, who maybe it gets better or it gets worse, I'm not entirely sure. A tactical change could be something to look at, but I'm tactically inept, so even that's a difficult one to settle on. But there are positives. Yes we're £2.3m in the red, but sponsorship and attendance is increasing. We have a whole host of talented youth players, with almost every seasons intake being fantastic ( Hesse-Semmer, Balga and Schug all came through this year, amongst others) and we did finish 6th in the league, so that has to account for something, I'm sure. It's just going to be a nervy summer heading into the new season and hoping that, even if we don't break the top 6, we're not as fucking awful as we've just been for the last 6 months. The future is bright, the future is purple...

Come on Dale!!!! Let's be patient while those kids get the development they need and become stars!!! Chin up mate, good luck next season. Haha, thanks buddy! We've started the new season well. I switched my AMC for a ST, going with basically a 424. We had a good pre-season and have opened the season with 4-0 and 3-2 wins. Marcel Hahn is slowly becoming something special and I think I'm a little bit in love, not gonna lie.

Normal service has resumed. We won the opening 3 games of the season, fairly convincingly too, but have now failed to win any of the following 4 games. Good times.

I think I'll put this save on ice for a while, as it's getting far more frustrating than it is enjoyable, and whilst I definitely want to keep going with it, I don't want to burn out on it too much.
I'm definitely tempted to have a blast on the file that makes everybody a free agent, if it works, but I'd have no idea where I'd even want to start with that, as I don't think I'd want to be a particularly big team but not a small team either. Got a backlog of other games to play too, though!

Pretty sure this thread is just me talking to myself now Booted up the free agent world db, decided to go Rangers for a bit of familiarity and so that I wouldn't be able/tempted to go too overboard trying to sign every world class player in the game! Tried to start off bringing in some good young players that wouldn't demand the world in wages (plus Tim Krul, because why not?) and Hlozek and Moriba are obviously two players that I know become fantastic. I'm trying to stick to a decent group of british players, at least as a base for the squad as I'm sure the brexit stuff kicks in eventually, if it doesn't from the start, so I'll need to bear that in mind. It's funny how quickly you run out of viable transfer targets when you're faced with an entire world of free agents. I'm not even sure where to begin when I look at some marquee players, but I'm also trying to keep wages realistic and not go out offering 100k to players that I've no business signing (for some reason this xml makes most teams very rich and with huge wage budgets, not sure if just for fun or to combat FFP etc in the early years) I'll try and keep an eye out for some interesting transfers and I can see the first season throwing up some really interesting league results around the world.

Hi mate, i'm reading (though not your last couple of updates), but this weekend it was the independency festivities here, so I spent a lot of it with friends and partying hahahaha. I'll resume my activity tomorrow morning, I'm in the last quarter of my season with Oldham so I should have an update soon, hopefully before Wednesday. Cheers!

Good to see this forum still somewhat alive! I got inspired to play a bit again after a holiday in Portugal. Dominated the league and domestic cups so I don't know if I will continue. The only loss of course was a 0.23 - 2.99 xG game against Paços de Ferreira where we also missed a penalty. PSG got the better of us in the quarter final of the CL though.

Benfica were actually close for most of the season! They only got 5 points from the last 7 games though, so that's where most of the gap comes from.
How is Ali Akman turning out for you? I have considered buying him on several saves but never actually done it.

Yeah, I feel you. I might go back to Austria or try something different soon, but I'm kinda hesitant with FM22 being not too far around the corner (although I'm not particularly excited for it as yet)
I'd hoped this free agent database might throw up some surprises, but it hasn't really. There's been some cool transfers, and it's interesting that both Messi and Ronaldo are still unemployed come January, and it's admittedly fun to play, but all the usual suspects are still dominating 6 months in to the season.

since 1962 8 finals in europe all end in defeats, benfica, end up churning out decent youngsters. So im guessing my final challenge is win CL or Euro cup with Benfica.

Ended up 3rd in league behind braga and winners porto!
Won league cup and fa cup though.
Been given only 6m to spend and not really got any sellable youngsters to help reinvest, so quality frees it is.
Got Milik from Napoli on a free. Pizzi from an attacking midfield position was my biggest goalthreat

So, my last update was in the midseason point and we were atop the League and had navigated the UCL groups. Second half of the season took a looooong time, but it was fun. We managed to win our first League title in the penultimate match, with a late draw, scoring on an own goal. That's not the ideal way, but winning the Premier League was fantastic. It wasn't our best season (last season we finished 3rd with 87 points), but we were the best in the league consistently as we won the top spot in the 10th matchdate, and only managed to slip into 2nd place for one week, being atop all the other weeks. Then came the Domestic Cups. In the EFL Cup we made it to the Quarter-Final, where we met Man City and lost narrowly. In the FA Cup, on the other hand we had a fantastic run, beating Reading, Preston, Leeds and Blackburn in the first rounds, then Swansea on pens in the Semifinal and toppling Manchester United in the Final to win our first FA Cup and secure a double. Then came the UEFA Champions League, our debut participation in the competition, after winning the Europa League last season. We topped our group, beating Lyon, Leverkusen and splitting games against Real Sociedad. That put us against Marseille in the Knockouts, whom we managed to beat after two 1-0 wins on each leg. We then had to play rivals Manchester United, and we managed to get by them, losing 0-1 in the first leg then beating them 4-1 at home. The semifinals were against Napoli, and again we managed to squeeze through with two cool 1-0 wins. This set up us against Real Madrid in the Final. We managed to score early, but Madrid equalized soon and dominated the rest of the first half, but we were lucky to score just before halftime and went to the locker room with a 2-1 win. We crushed them in the second half and managed to win our first UEFA Champions League, with a 5-1 win. We had a great season team-wise, but not so great inidividualities as you'd expect. I still rotated the team quite a bit and overall we need to try and improve in a few key positions after the development of a few players stagnated a bit. This offseason will be interesting in terms of trying to improve the team and what the future might bring. Cheers!
